Today is World Mental Health Day. Please try to take care of yourself and be kind to those around you. If you're in the US, especially in California, and you have the ability to vote or vote by mail, try to learn more about the propositions that are going to directly affect our collective mental health. I have been through quite a lot the past decade or so, and can say that I have suffered in silence for far too long. Never feel like a burden. Never feel like you can't somehow ask for help. Don't succumb to pride or ego or familial expectations, or to the antiquated bullshit stigma that still haunts those of us who are suffering with mental illness. Our disabilities may be invisible, yet they are very real and have major biological consequences. But please remember this: There is nothing wrong with us -- what we have experienced is merely the product of an entirely broken system, and this society's white-supremacist heteropatriarchal capitalist tyranny is, in no uncertain terms, responsible for the systemic traumas we've endured. Let us envision, build, and sustain a world where mental health is taken just as seriously as physical health, where getting treatment or seeking therapy isn't dismissed as a luxury for the few, yet a human right for people from all walks of life. Keep on keeping on. Your lives are precious and your health is paramount, no matter who you are or where you come from.Β
