This is the only parenting book I’ve ever purchased (read). When I was pregnant, I didn’t read What to Expect When You’re Expecting or any books that felt heavy on fluff. Not my thing. This is the second copy of Simplicity Parenting I’ve bought, the first one I gave away to a dear friend. I’d buy it again and again. This book continues to confirm my intuition when it comes to parenting and kindly points out where I have work to do. Things I’ve been learning during parenthood: Gratitude and simplicity makes me a happier person. Maternal instinct is a real thing and I’ll always protect my children. Even though I try hard to be a good parent, I can’t really run away from feeling some sort of guilt, but that’s what makes me strive to be better. My babies don’t mind my singing skills, so I’ll sing as much as I want. Another rainy day, but it’s not just rain that’s in the air, there’s lots of MAGIC too! Every day I do all I can to create an inviting and nurturing environment for my son to play in. I believe it’s critically important for him to play outside as much as possible! We never let a little rain dampen our day, it’s actually quite the opposite! Rain enriches our play and adds a wonderful sensory experience as well! We LOVE to ride our bikes through the puddles, make mud pies and magic castles, scoop up frogs, snails, tadpoles, and fish in our nets, dig for worms to feed our chickens, oh I could go on and on! But I always keep our home environment warm and welcoming for the times he needs that in-breath too! And I can see how it’s “working” as he walks in the door. His shoulders drop, his heart rate, breathing, and body language becomes slower and more at a steady rhythm. His voice even gets quieter. I love to observe my son, I learn so much! I’m currently working on simplifying our house and life and I believe that will greatly impact my son and us as a family in a positive way….but that’s another post in itself, and I’ll write about it soon. For now we are enjoying our here and now and finding our magic in the every day!
