Young Royals is so stupidly well-written I’m sitting here screaming into eternity over it. Everything is connected so meticulously, the characters all have their moments of unreliability and depth, and it must be such a gift to a young actor to have a show like this to showcase their skill. Not to mention literally all the decisions they’re making for Simon and Wilhelm’s relationship are what I dreamed of seeing in a queer story as a teenager but never thought would ever actually happen.

They're so genuinely happy just by being with each other's presence. There is so much drama that will happen but they need to be on a date like this again.. except it has to be somewhere where they could hold hands, enjoy a dinner or just do whatever they wanna do for a date without caring who would see.

Speaking of W & S...

This will be a short post but I wanna talk about Wilhelm, Simon, and their relationship.

Especially with gay relationships, we see a typical stereotype: one boy/man is more masculine, and the other is more feminine. I am sorry, but I saw that in Heartstopper too and did not like it (please do not come onto me, this is my opinion and it will not change).

In Young Royals, both Wilhelm and Simon are masculine. When they created the characters, they did not fall into this typical stereotype and I love it! Our boys are masculine but they are also so soft for each other.

Wilhelm is kind-hearted. He made sure that Felice was feeling okay in Ep 3. He gave her his coat when she was cold outside in Ep 4. He is down to earth and was very friendly toward Simon's friends. When it came to be strong in some situations (e.g. The Society blaming Simon in Ep 5), he put his authority out there to protect the one he loves. He can be reserved, but he will also put himself out there when it comes to protecting the people he loves.

Simon, on the other hand, is such a strong character. He is not there to be Wilhelm's love interest, i.e. the pretty boy with an angelic voice. He has his own story arc, not involving Wilhelm at all. Up until a certain point, Wilhelm did not even know Simon was dealing drugs. Moreover, Simon stood for himself all time. He did it with Vincent, August, and even Wilhelm. He shook Sara in Ep 6, telling her "you are ashamed of your family and it is not okay" basically.

When they are together, Wilhelm and Simon are so soft for each other. The screenshot above tells it all. They care about each other so much. They are tender, caring, passionate... Even if their social status is very very different, they are equals in their relationship as Lisa said in the DUST magazine interview. There were times (e.g. piano fight scene) I got mad at both Wilhelm and Simon, but I understood them. They are teens, and they come from different backgrounds.

All in all, if we say their relationship is toxic, we would misjudge it. Trust me, their relationship is one of the most non-toxic relationships I have ever seen so far out of thousands of relationships on screen I have seen. I trust the creators to continue this story the same as they did in S1, i.e. with utmost care!
