In the hills of Jubilant Accosts, Simon Klein is the Proxy of the True Jacobans—the most honored position in their religion, and the only who who sees visions from the Watcher himself in their dreams. Everyone in the Valley turns to Simon for advice and when they're in need.
His new wife Eleanore is a devoted member of the Jacoban faith, and is expecting their first child. Simon is, understandably very protective of her, as his two previous wives were called upon by the Watcher far too early in life.
Though recently, Eleanore has seemed a little unsure of the things the Watcher has asked of them, and Simon isn't thrilled by the questions she has had in the quiet hours of the evening. He fears her thoughts have been corrupted by the townspeople of Jakobston, or worse—Xexys himself.
He can't have that of his young wife. Not when their family is just about to begin. He intends to keep her close to make sure that she isn't getting any ideas from the wrong people.
