Today we celebrate the memory of our Holy Father Luke the Surgeon of Simferopol (+1961). Saint Luke was a leading surgeon and made significant advances in medicine which are still used today. Following his calling to become a priest, he then became bishop of Simferopol. During the communist rule, all icons were confiscated and burnt. Saint Luke refused to operate without the icon of the Virgin Mary in his theatre and so when the communist general's daughter fell ill and only Saint Luke could save her, the Saint refused to perform any surgery until the icon was placed back in his operating theatre. This was done and he save the life of the girl. He was also imprisoned and beaten, however he endured this all with patience and eventually fell asleep in the Lord in peace. Countless miracles have taken place at his gravesite. May he intercede for us all + #saint #luke #surgeon #saintluke #saintlukethesurgeon #lukethesurgeon #crimea #simferopol #ukraine #ukrainianorthodox #communist #communism #love #faith #icon #virginmary #orthodox #saintoftheday (at Simferopol, Ukraine) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ceo5RrdPTjz/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
