Yuuri from a silver spledour, a flame because the way you wrote hime really really resonated with me for some reason.
a silver splendour, a flame takes its title from these poemsĀ and theyāre kind of important for yuuri, like the duality he has where heās constantly getting crushed by anxiety but is also a complete badass who routinely rises above those circumstances. idk. i have a lot of feelings about reclaimed persephone narratives that remember that sheās actually a badass and some of that projects onto yuuri in my writing sometimes
(in precious things itās eros(victor)/psyche(yuuri) instead but the fact remains i love mythology usage in this kind of writing)
death and the phoenix as an anxiety metaphor
or a mental illness metaphor in general
e.g. spending a little bit of each day in its own kind of death compared to the life it seems like everyone else is living
seriously a lot of poetry reading came out in silver splendour. thereās a rumi line about āyouāve seen my descent, now watch my riseā and if you read the first few poems here youāll see more of his themes reflected in yuuriās characterization
also some nikita gill work hereĀ and here
he needed to be both āordinaryā compared to the rest of the cast and alsoĀ āmiraculousā compared to the rest of the cast. this is why heās only half-elven, so that the lie of his own inferiority relative to victor is established from the get-go
and then later everyone, victor included, realizes how important he actually is
and how amazing he has to be to be able to endure what happens to him every year
