“It’s not possible…” The druid couldn believe it, not once in his life had he thought he would encounter such a creature, and it had to be Theo Raeken. To witch extend had the doctors messed up with Theo’s DNA, with his sole being? Even dead, they still hurt the man, they still had the upper hand, this just proved it. “Has someone else touched it?”

“What?” Liam asked confused and distraught with the situation while he helped a shivering Theo up the table. He didn’t understand what the hell was happening but he didn’t like it, he could feel his wolf scratching at the back of his mind, wanting out, wanting to protect the chimera.

“Has someone else touched his hair? This is important, Liam—” 

“I did, I touched it when I first noticed it, no one else.” The beta unconsciously moved, standing between Theo and the druid.

“Mason, come here. I need you to touch Theo’s hair.” The human and Deadon’t apprentice choke on the water he was currently drinking and looked between his boyfriend to Deaton. 

“I don’t think I should—”

“No! If it’s going to hurt him I don’t want him to—”

“Kids!” The druid interrupted them, a stern look on his face he rarely had. “I wouldn’t ask him if it wasn’t important, I do not want to cause Theo any harm but I need to be sure that what I suspect is true.”  

Liam knew that was true, that the vet wouldn’t cause Theo harm out of pleasure or selfishness but he was still on edge, he didn’t want to cause Theo any discomfort. 

“Li… It’s okay.” The chimera dropped his head between Liam’s shoulder blades, he was tired and wanted to go home, but he needed to know what the hell was going on with him. He could take a little pain, he was used to it, he just needed to concentrate. 

“Are you sure?” Liam didn’t move from his place in front of the chimera till he felt him nodding and squeezing his hips slightly. 

“Let’s get this over with.” Theo was not looking forward to it but nodded towards Mason to get closer, his hand going immediately to grab Liam’s hand and intertwined their fingers.

The chimera zoned out while Deaton poked and probed at him, taking blood samples to test against herbs and poisons that could be affecting him. Making small cuts to test Theo’s healing, everything was normal. The chimera was barely paying attention but he was paying enough to catch the confused expression in the druid’s face. Hah, that makes two of them. Everything looked normal but he was still sick, his body still hurt and he still felt like dying and going blind, and don’t even mention his hair. 

“Is there anything else? Anything else that is out of the ordinary?” Liam, seeing as the chimera was too lost in thought to answer decided to do it himself.

“His eyes are extremely sensitive to light and… his hair.” Liam was so confused, from what they knew, no poison and no disease that would cause this, not to a supernatural.

“His hair?” There was a slight flicker in the druid’s eyes, almost like recognition.

“It’s turning white…”

The druid’s eyes went wide and tuned his head back towards Theo. His hands quickly moved, Theo didn’t even noticed till his hood was being knocked off his head and there was a hand on his hair. But it didn’t feel warm and comfortable like Liam’s, it felt like burning, painful and punishing. The chimera screamed as if he was on agony and fell from the table, covering his head with shaky hands.

He let Liam guide him towards his room, and help him into bed. He wouldn’t be caught dead admiting it, but he had always enjoyed when Liam fussed over him. He didn’t fight the beta when he pulled the covers over Theo, nor when he ran his fingers through the chimera’s hair. 

“It doesn’t hurt when I touch it?” The question was barely audible but the worry in it was loud. 

“No, it doesn’t… feels good, actually.” Liam smiled at the chimera’s words and leaned forward, leaving a soft kiss on his lips before he pulled back. 

“I’ll get the file.”

The chimera thought back to when he first had found the file, he had hid it from everyone. From Stiles’ toxic curiosity, from Malia’s distrust, even from Liam’s understatement. He had hid it. Not because he thought there was something to hide but because he wasn’t ready to see in paper a detailed description of what he had experienced. He was a child that was tortured and experimented on for years. Who would want to relive that?

After a few more apologies from Mason and dismissive words from Theo, the couple was back at home. The chimera was grateful that Liam’s parents had yet to come home, he didn’t feel like explaining his state yet, specially when he didn’t understand much of it himself. 

“Come on, you are going to my room. There’s no way in hell I’ll leave you in your room alone feeling like this.” Unlike popular belief, Theo still had his own room in the Dunbar-Geyer household. Even if since a bit before dating, the chimera usually slept in Liam’s room, he still got his own room.

“What do you mean rarer?” Mason was the one who spoke up, he was Deaton’s student, he was naturally curious, but this time, it was not just curiosity. It was worry. He had learn to worry when things were out of the ordinary, even for supernaturals.

“I mean, there’s barely any recollection of them.” The druid showed them one of his book, it was old, leather bound. it was similar to a beastiary. Under the name *****, there were only two pages of information, barely any, in a language none of them could read but that obviously the druid knew. “****** are rare, but even then male ****** are even rarer. The creature is commonly depicted as an exceptionally beautiful woman with white-silver or white-gold hair, pale blue eyes almost silver and glowing skin. They use their beauty to manipulate people, it’s a glamour. But when they transform, their beauty is gone and replaced with a creature that resembles a harpy. Wings with feathers that can vary from white to grey or black, claws like talons and a crown on feathers over their foreheads.” 

The druid showed Theo a drawing of what a ***** looked like as a human and how it looked shifted. He was shocked to see, it looked a lot like his mother. The same blue eyes, the same pale gold hair, the shape of their face and their smile. The smile was very particular, it wasn’t quite a smirk but it looked…

“That smile looks a lot like the smirk pre-hell Theo did when things went his way.” 

“Corey!”

“No, no… he’s right.” The chimera murmured, dragging his eyes away from the drawing. “It looks really similar to my mom. Could she had been—”

“A *****? Yes, it’s very likely she carried the gene.” The druid nodded, knowing that was a big possibility.

“Can I go home? Now that I know I am indeed not dying.”

“Her eyes… They… they keep flashing!” David had his stethoscope around his neck, he had clearly been checking Lyra. “Her heartbeat… is not normal either.” 

Theo didn’t need to hear more, the chimera quickly approached the bed and lifted Lyra, he wrapped in her blanket with her little gold dragon that Peter gifted her a couple of months ago when they had announced Lyra’s adoption. 

“Grab her things, Liam!” The chimera didn’t even stop to say the words and he didn’t need to. The beta had already grabbed Lyra’s back and Theo’s keys and was quickly walking downstairs behind Theo as the chimera practically ran with their little girl in his arms.

“What. The. Fuck?” There was a patch of platinum white hair on his bangs. White fucking hair. “I’m dying and on top of that my hair is fucking white?”

“Stop that! You are not dying! We are taking you to Deaton, maybe he knows what’s happening to you.” The beta sighed, running his fingers trough the chimera’s hair. “And it does look good, you know.” 

Theo was too tired to even pry away the beta’s hand, instead the chimera leaned towards the touch, feeling something settle in his chest at the contact. After that, everything felt as if the chimera was in autopilot. Liam had helped him get changed, choosing to just get into joggers and Liam’s lacrosse hoodie, his body hurt too much to do more than that, which on it’s own was a clear sign that something was wrong, because the chimera was always looking good and produced.

Another clear sign that something was wrong was the fact that it was Liam who drove them in the chimera’s truck to the clinic, which Mason had very purposely pointed out, earning a low growl from Theo. Unfortunally, the lack of glowing eyes and fangs took away from the threatening attitude the chimera thought he had. 

“Stop that, you are going to make yourself feel even worse!” The beta pulled his boyfriend towards the familiar metal table in the vet clinic. Theo would have made a snark remark if he didn’t feel like shit.
