Do there slivers without abilities
Silvers completely without abilites would be an interesting concept. Imagine them hiding that fact with great subterfuge and feeling extremely insecure while still being ambitious af.
I think it’s not impossible, such things happen. And commoners are weaker to begin with which might be close to having no ability.
about cals pov: I get the feeling we will learn nothing about mavens past unless we actually get his pov (which I know has 0,0001% chance of happening) and it upsets me because there's so much potential on talking about how elara raised and treated him (also I don't think cal knows a lot about this tbh). quick question: I was wondering if it was mentioned at some point if the children always inherit the fathers power? thanks! (you can publish this if you like)
I wouldn’t be so sure - I’m still hoping for an Iris POV with them being some kind of friends - but you may be right. What Maven’s saying to people is mostly true, but still ambiguous and not necessarily the whole truth. Like he states his feelings for Thomas and still some readers don’t think that Thomaven was a thing. Maven might mention something bad was done to him but he’ll be downplaying it at the same time because he isn’t trying to seek pity. I may hope for the best in the confrontation of the brothers, yet likely, many things will remain unresolved and headcanons will be called for. Alone the matter of what Cal knew and what he didn’t opens space for a lot of discussions and metas on growing up in the Calore family. Was Cal just blind to everything? Or were Maven and Elara that good actors? Did Elara mindfuck Maven to be silent, did she threaten to punish him or abused him in others ways to stay quiet? And what was the relationship of Cal and Elara even like?
Silver children usually inherit the father’s ability. It’s very uncommon, but it happens that the mother’s ability is passed on instead, but it’s still only one ability for each Silver. I have no figures on that, but I HC ~ 5 % of Silver children inherit the ability of their mothers.
i saw an ask about silvers with no abilities and maybe they were taken away as a punishment, or they’re encased in silent stone or and arden guard is always with them. kinda like how some shadow hunters could get stripped of their runes. (idk if you’re in the mortal instruments fandom)
I think silent stone would offer great opportunites to get creative, eg. used as poison, and I can imagine such a punishment strategy. Would be interesting. However the way Mare was treated seems like they still needed to experiment with taking abilities away. As if criminal Silvers were put in silent stone cells and that was it.
(Mare wasn’t supposed to stay in her cell so Silvers without abilities but still having a life thus seems unusual. The Arvens were with her even in her cell, so they weren’t only there to keep her from running off when she’s out but because they didn’t trust the manacles were enough.)
But I really like the idea. Maybe something for a future democracy?
Evangeline can do some kind of bastard version of Allomantic Jumping and no one can convince otherwise.
If she can make metal things fly, she can use metal things to “fly” herself. I’m pretty sure Magneto does it too^^

Elane Haven - Finished version
WIP 1
WIP 2
Sorry for the wavy paper *sighs*
I finally found information on her eyecolour - they’re described as dark and angled in King’s Cage p. 111. I chose brown.
Maybe I’ll make another drawing with a glass and metal crown. If I find a design.

How do you think reds and sliver would react if a sliver without abilities was born
That is an interesting question, thank you!
AFAIK, the abilities show later on, so no one would know from birth. I guess the parents would start to panic with time and become really disappointed in the child, but they would never tell anyone (especially not Reds).
I can actually imagine this kind of happens among the common Silvers. Their abilities aren’t as great and some are certainly rather weak, to the extent that a lack of ability wouldn’t become public necessarily. The Silver without an ability would have to deal with a lot of pressure though, with the need to hide, the self-doubt and the wish to be honest. However, if this would be very common, there might be some acceptance in the middle class, but still tinged with disdain. I’d compare this to the guards in The Lunar Chronicles whose super-powers are rather small but they are forced into their specific profession for this reason.
WIP sketch for Elane Haven
No black because I don’t shade pencil drawings. The pose is a bit forced, but I hope to improve in the actual picture, and I like the constrast of wielding light and shadows at once.
I’m really into Elane using glass knives/daggers/swords etc. She could use them as prisms and she would use weapons which are her very own and which the magnetrons around her can’t control. It’s boon for the wife of the future house lord. Bons: Maybe there are made of diamond glass. Diamond glass would be an interesting weapon material, as it is not brittle, but still very hard and sharpe.
