Caranthir defense that turned into rambling about headcanons I did for another ask:

I've been more interested in Caranthir lately, there seems to be the least content for him (tied for least with Amburassa at least,) and half of the things I see with him are usually just shipping him with Haleth. The other Feanorians get complicated analysis and what feels like endless content, shipping and otherwise.

Headcanons for him; neurodivergent, (ADHD and autistic.) He also seems like a loner, he's the only Feanorian that's not really in a pair with one of his brothers. I like to think that he kept absolutely meticulous records. Ever since I read a fanfic about him falsifying records about the population of his people to spare more of them from the war, to protect them... I've started thinking that Caranthir the Dark, Caranthir, a loner who acts in anger or hate is a mask. It's a wall, a shield to protect himself and his people, much as I think Finrod's sunshine-y personality is a mask to hide his trauma. Everything hurts him deeply, so he puts up this wall to keep those who could hurt him away. Sometimes he can understand others as if he read their mind, all of their memories, everything, he can guess what they'll have for breakfast next week, but he still doesn't usually understand people, why they sometimes do certain things.

TBH i really really like crossover fics where some tolkien character drops into a modern setting of another fandom,,,call me basic but i also like highschool/college au bc i live for the modernized family drama…and uh, space au ig

18. Favourite crack pairing/concept/headcanon?

i’ve seen a a lot of silm characters being shipped with erestor (glorfindel, ecthelion, maglor, fingon, etc) or erestor being in the silmarillion events in general. and i??? really like that??? even though it’s super random (like. he breathed in lotr and that’s it). ik this is venturing too near to the lotr area but bc of erestor’s vague background there are so many possibilities! i’m here for inserting him during the whole mess in the silm. idk if this counts as crack since it’s pretty popular but from the fact that erestor has a pretty small role yet big fanbase (and i love him!!!) kinda sounds crack-ish…? oh and. i like daeron/maglor and lowkey want a fic about beleg and legolas meeting bc sindar archer elf boyes. it sounds cute

🪄You can change how one (1) Big Event goes down in the Silm - either in favor of something in HoME or something you made up. What happens instead? Tell us the cool stuff!

Finrod would survive 🥺. Perhaps by Luthien getting there earlier, or his wounds not being as severe. I think, once he recovers, he would also finally face the trauma that he was hiding behind the mask of a sunshine-y personality, and it would change how events from there out go. After Beren and Luthien's success in getting the silmaril, I think that Finrod would be hugely supported in getting Nargothrond back by Thingol. The Celegorm and Curufin would definitely be tossed out of Nargothrond sooner. Now it's been a while since I've read CoH, but I think he would treat the Turin situation very differently from Orodreth. I would like to say that Nargothrond stood for longer, though it definitely would still be sacked and destroyed at some point because well... everything was. With Finrod's closeness to Ulmo, with the vision to build Nargothrond perhaps he would've gotten a similar message that Turgon did, to flee the city before it was sacked and so on.

Also I think High King Finrod would be a lot of fun, I know Gil-galad was technically next in succession BUT he also wasn't of age when he became king so I think it would at least be temporarily pasted to Finrod, at least until Gil-galad was of age. And now that i think about it, Finarfin arriving in Beleriand to Finrod being king is just. I'm tearing that apart with my teeth I love it lol. I know it's more horrifying for Finarfin to arrive and have a Finwean that he doesn't even know as king, but I think Finrod as king would be a whole other kind of nasty shock.

I generally think Finrod surviving would have a bit of a uniting effect on the elves as a whole too, there would likely be a significant attempt by Maedhros and Maglor to show that they did not support Celegorm and Curufin's coup and that they supported Finrod, and with Thingol likely supporting him in winning back Nargothrond I think it could unite the Noldor and Sindar a little. The silmaril would definitely complicate matters but with how the Feanorians didn't even seem to consider getting the Silmaril from Luthien I don't think it would be immediately bad. And with Finrod as a in between perhaps the second kinslaying could be averted or made less severe. (I'm not taking a stance on if the Feanorian's claim to the Silmaril is valid or not though, that argument gives me a headache lol)

my copy of the fall of gondolin (the hardcover with the pretty illustrations on a rlly nice paper!), my minghao photocard (lmao), and my drawing tablet

10. What made you read the Silmarillion in the first place?

i had the book since i was in 8th grade and never made it past the first chapter lmao (i did continue reading the children of hurin but idkwhy i stopped halfway), then i continued it after getting into the tolkien fandom again last year and tolkien tumblr was full of fingon, maedhros, feanor, characters I've never heard of before and i found out they were from the book i gave up on,,,,,

13. Where in Middle-Earth would you most like to live?

Imladris, it seems like a place that would put me at peace!

14. Who is your dream partner from Tolkien’s works?

romantic partner...? Idk honestly,,,, finrod,,,???? I dont have a good explanation for that???

25. What would you most like to see in a tv series or film based on the Silmarillion?

ok so controversial but I'd rlly like an animated silmarillion tv show, if we're going with movies there are going to be a looooot of details cut from the movie (and removing characters, scenes and replacing roles,,,,yikes) while a live action tv show, there's a small chance they're gonna get a big budget for this lengthy piece and i dont want to sit through the painful CG....

anyways, I'd want to see an animated silmarillion, maybe with the art style similar to the legend of aang/korra, but a ghibli-style scenery. And. as an elf f*cker. i really want to see more of the buildup before morgoth stole the silmarils, like the relationship between the house of finwë, some character building, drama, etc, etc. But also, for some reason, i want to see the dwarves drawn really tiny with really fluffy beards? god, i know the silm is faaaar from soft but i can dream.

beren and luthien, based on canon, but fanon!feanor and nerdanel are very adorable (i cant remember what it’s like in the book but i’m somehow sure it ended messy)

let’s ignore what happened in the end and say beleg and turin!!!! but other than that, fingon and maedhros,,,dude literally charged headfirst into the enemy’s territory with a bow and arrow and a freaking harp, unprepared and in secret.

12. If you had to describe yourself with a character from Tolkien’s works, who would it be?

oh boy i can’t think of anyone….finarfin, maybe? i’m not the most useful person around and i stay out of conflicts  djfhgshjd 

15. Which two characters would you want as friends to defeat Voldemort with?

see i’ve never watched/read harry potter so idk what i’m up against, but i’m taking feanor and earendil maybe??? idkwhy

⚓ Pick a Silm ship to go down with. What is compelling about their dynamic?

Hm that's a hard one, I don't really seriously ship any characters, I just do a few for fun or because I think it's funny. So, after much consideration; the swan ships 🤣

Random ship related fic idea: in the 3rd or 4th age the Noldor and Teleri wanted to do something to continue healing the rift between their peoples, so they collaborated on a great work. Noldor craftsmen and Teleri shipbuilders came together and crafted new ships of glass and clear crystal. So that when the Teleri sailed they may see deep down into the waters they loved, to see the fish, creatures, the reefs. And the ships were named after Teleri who had been slain in the first kinslaying and still had not been re-embodied. For it was feared that, they never would be for it had been so long. So, they named the ships after them, so that they may once again sail their beloved waters. And so the Noldor could sail on them every once and a while like those tourists on the plexiglass bottomed boats.

Silmarillion ask

😈 Give the villains some love. Which antagonist is most interesting to you and what about them draws you in?

Sauron! His shear loyalty is crazy, even thousands of years after Morgoth was defeated he was still trying to serve Morgoth and achieve his goal of taking over the world. And how every time he's defeated, he essentially gets a makeover - good guy, to werewolves and vampires, to classic evil, to human sacrifice, to putting on a disguise and making rings, to classic scary evil again, then to the void (so maybe a Nazgul aesthetic then). Him thinking that he could be the greatest werewolf and defeat Huan only to have his ass thoroughly handed to him. And he was dramatic enough to have a magic song battle with Finrod. Love that.
