you need to read the books. it has great content 😪
I tried to read the books once, and I wasn’t a fan of Cassandra Clare’s prose, it’s very flowery and lacks a lot of substance–it’s purple prose. Which is fine, it has its time and place, but personally it’s not my cup of tea. When the prose is so overloaded with metaphors that I lose track of what’s actually happening in a scene, it’s not enjoyable for me.
I may try again, now that I’m invested in the characters from the show, but I worry that my attachment to the show’s version of the story will lessen my enjoyment on the books in a different way. I know that the characters are very different, and I’ve very attached to the way Magnus and Alec are portrayed in the show. But I am interested in possibly trying the series that focuses on Magnus, or maybe that new book that focuses on malec. I doubt I’ll ever read the main series, because I’m not a huge fan of the Clary/Jace storyline, so I don’t see the point.
Plus, if I read the books I’ll have to do so without spending any money on them, because I loathe Cassandra Clare and I refuse to give her any of my money beyond whatever royalties she gets from the show using her characters.
