It wasn't enough to keep their beloved friend from becoming grafted to the ship of the very person who wanted them all executed. It wasn't enough to save the life of the woman who raised the man leading the revolution. And it wasn't enough to save him. In the end, she lived the longest. The one raised by a cat with two mouths, who could hardly hear, but knew almost every dialect and language on their planet. The one who kept a detailed record of every sermon, every day, every memory of him. The one who was spared. That final scream. The final words from her beloved.
