pov: youre a mending villager

“The hell are you doing, you demon?”

Damien, only sixteen, stood under the tree you had just climbed up into. He sounded exasperated, having gotten used to your antics over the many years of knowing you. You, being fifteen, flash him a smile and tell him your reason.

“You climbed into a tree, to save a cat…?”

Eagerly nodding, you continue your climb up the tree, much to Damien’s dismay. With each branch you cling onto, each divot of the bark you dig your fingers into, you steadily climb higher and higher. Damien yells at you from below, muttering anxiously as he paces around the tree to find the best angle to catch you. “Fuck fuck fuck…! This is so fucking stupid…! Oh my god it’s a cat I could’ve done this myself— hey!”

He shouts as your foot slips, your hands being scraped against the bark in a desperate attempt to regain your footing. The rough surface scratches your palms, ripping open the thin layer of skin covering your palms. Finally you catch against some steady branches and ridges, and a dramatic sigh of relief wheezes out your lungs before they tighten up again, bracing for the climb up. Thankfully, you’re not bleeding! Just extremely sore and your hands kinda burn. Ouch.

“Oh my god you’re going to get yourself killed— go slow!”

In the end, you got your cat! A kitty with no microchip, no collar, and big stupid eyes that you just couldn’t say no to. A couple month old kitten with big green eyes and a scruffy coat of black fur. Damien says it was dumb to save the cat yourself. He could’ve done it for you, that you could’ve asked literally anyone else for help, gotten a ladder, yet he can’t seem to subdue the smile that tugs on his lips as he plays with your new feline friend.

Waking up sweaty, Angel just turns over and goes “hey there. We had a wild night, huh?”

“If you think tossing and turning in the California heat is a ‘wild night’ then I guess…?”
