In a publishing industry and a genre (fantasy) that has been overwhelmed with the idea of couples being 'fated' or predestined 'mates' the concept of Heart-Threads in Susan Dennard's The Witchlands is so much more relatable. It's grounded and it feels real, but it's not devoid of depth and beauty. Also, by its definition, it has room for asexuality, which is often reduced.
