It’d been rather hot outside for the time of day it was. Beautiful as the scenery was, the sun was falling over the resting ocean had little effect on the humidity. That left the outer part of the restaurant unoccupied by customers. Fine dining outside was only a treat if the weather didn’t make your bread soggy.

The staff hadn’t seated anyone outside for such reasons. So it was particularly strange to see a man alone out there. Siebold himself was the one to take notice. So he fixed his collar, went out to the deck, and approached the table of one.

“These just aren’t right.”

A tall man at the marketplace spoke his mind aloud. His arms were crossed, and eyes fixed on the colorful selection of spices on display. The catalog of flavors in his head recognized most of the ingredients. To the few newer ones, they weren’t meeting the standard of something ‘entirely new’ that the chief was searching for.
