Some great color for a grey and rainy Friday
It’s raining in Athens today:
so to brighten our moods, we’re taking a peek at a sunny day of the past. In 1955, someone at WBZ-TV Boston filmed the Monte Carlo Fair that took place locally in either autumn or spring, based on the clothing, and Sid Pike saved the film. Outdoors in sunlight is the perfect place to shoot on Kodachrome, so you really get to see the hyper-real colors, and boy are there a lot of colors in this short reel. Here are a few frames.
The folks who brought in all the fair equipment were the Lagasse Amusement Co. out of Haverhill, Mass.
WBZ personnel were on the committee for the fair and I’m guessing the event may have had a benefit component. The auctioneer in one scene was one of the station anchors:
