That hot summer night we spent what felt like an eternity curled into each other. I was so very tired but with you in my arms I couldn’t even fathom sleep. What a fool I would be to waste such intimate time with you. You whispered secrets that I’m not sure had left your lips before that night. The words seemed to trip you like giant bumps on your path but my fingers managed to soothe you and smooth out your journey. I’m not sure if you meant to tell me or if it slipped out, but I’ll keep it safe regardless. You asked me how I felt about chickens and I laughed and told you that I needed to turn off the light before I told you my thoughts. The funny thing is that everything sounds like a great idea when it’s laced with your enthusiasm, my guiltiest pleasure. I held you like you were the most precious thing that I will ever hold and the truth isn’t far from that. It’s odd the way a span of just a few hours with you can burn such a lasting impression in my hippocampus. You said things were mostly better for me now but the truth is that everything has been better since you came into my life. I didn’t know anyone could love me so much without expecting anything in return. Then again I didn’t know I was capable of that kind of love either but here we are.
