I will say this again and again, Hualian is amazing because they are both their own person. They are not halves of each other nor do they complete each other. They both grew from their own mistakes and misfortunes and became who they are today. They are complete, complex and palpable characters in their own right. Hualian doesn't need to be together to be interesting, both Hua Cheng and Xie Lian are deep and intriguing characters on their own. And they only grow so much better and stronger through each others mutual love, support and respect.
