the secret ninjago truth is that lloyd isn’t actually an anime protagonist, kai was the traditional anime protagonist and got usurped by lloyd, a comic book protagonist
Am I the only one confused by those that often complain about “filler” episodes?
I mean, obviously there are times I want to get back to the main plot, or times I haven’t liked a particular episode for either the story or the monster or the script, but having a problem with these types episodes regardless doesn’t make sense to me. This is probably gonna be a long, rambling mess, but I just wanna get it off my chest.
First of all, Supernatural has literally always been this way. Maybe not the exact same format they’ve had going for years (we can almost always predict when we’ll get a case of the week and when we’ll get an episode focusing on the big picture), but the show has never been just one big story after the next, or am I forgetting that season 1 was just nothing but them driving to find their dad and yellow eyes never making a single stop along the way? 🙄 Which brings me to my second point...
People love to throw out the ol’ “this show really should have ended after Season 5″ and say that Seasons 1-5 were the best, and in addition to whining about “filler episodes”, also love to say they miss when there were less Angels / Heaven / Hell / Cas / Jack / Crowley / Rowena / other long running characters outside of the brothers / etc. So umm... which is it? because last time I checked, Seasons 1&2 were mostly “Monster of the Week” episodes, Season 3 was the first to add new people to the main cast with Ruby and Bela, and Seasons 4&5 were the real start of expanding the mythology. So apparently those are all things you don’t like but those seasons are also the best? Okay.
I bet if the last 10, 7, even 5 episodes were nothing but the bigger story, everyone would be sad they didn’t get to see the boys work a case one last time.
There’s a lot of people concerned that the series finale will disappoint. I’m worried about that too. Then I see people say “there’s only _ episodes left, why are they doing filler episodes?!”. This, to me, is a good thing. Imagine if we don’t like the finale / if we don’t like the way this storyline and/or the show wraps up... wouldn’t we be glad there were “fillers”? Look at something like How I Met Your Mother. Were people simply upset that Robin & Barney divorced, or were they upset that the entire final season was structured around the planning of their wedding only for them to divorce? Was it that Tracey died, or was it that she was the Mother we’d been waiting all series long to meet, only for her to quickly be killed off in a montage? You can’t watch any episode of that final season without thinking about the way it ends, because it’s all about the things that don’t end well. You can, however, watch plenty of episodes from other seasons that don’t focus on the mother, and that don’t focus on Barney and Robin (or just not their engagement and wedding). Supernatural is giving us episodes that take a break from the main plot that we’ll still have to go back and enjoy without having to think too much about how it ends. and even then, it’s not like a single episode goes by without them talking about what’s going on. It always comes up at least two or three times.
I like knowing that if I hate how it all goes down, I’ll still be able to watch some Season 15 episodes. Same goes with every season and it’s main story. That you can check in on the boys, their friends, the cases from any season and just enjoy it without thinking of anything else. If the God stuff ends up sucking, I’ll still be able to go back and enjoy Mrs. Butters. and when I wanna re-watch some Supernatural over the years, I’m not always gonna be up for an entire, whole series, 15 season re-watch, nor will I wanna just drop into the middle of a bigger story I may not remember all the details of or be as invested it. I’ll just want a case! or a flashback episode, a holiday episode, a time travel episode, or an episode where a recurring character like Charlie returns for something fun like the Wizard of Oz thing.
Seasons 1-5 were the best? Then why complain about the cases of the week?! All this talk about loving to see the boys happy and/or how they deserve to take a break? Enjoy watching them fit in some holiday activities they haven’t experienced before! and isn’t one of the things we love most about Sam & Dean that they care? That they put themselves in harms way time and time again to save others and save the world?! Then appreciate that even with everything going on, they still take the time to help out old friends, acquaintances, or even strangers, and rid the world of yet another monster!
Yes, it can be frustrating. but Supernatural wouldn’t be Supernatural without the so-called filler episodes, and I for one would hate if there weren’t any in the last season. It wouldn’t be the same show. The main plot of the season is important, and I too really hope the end doesn’t come out feeling rushed... but that won’t have me upset with the fun, one-off cases. That’ll be the fault of the writers and producers for their poor planning. Maybe one less filler episode. Maybe more main story information within the filler episodes. but I’d never want them gone completely, and if you love Supernatural, even just the first 5 seasons (which like, why are you still here then if it’s truly been 10 years since you’ve enjoyed it?), then I don’t get why you would. 🤷🏽♀️
