Hey Sailors! I know I’m breaking my own rules again lol but for this week’s movie of the week or book of the week I had to do this show because I’m rewatching it with my husband and I forgot how much storytelling influence Avatar: The Last Airbender had on me. So for this week’s choice, Show of The Week: Avatar: The Last Airbender. • • • I mean come on talk about an amazing fantastical universe! With four diverse and culturally rich nations and (we don’t mention the movie. Ever.) the characters who have depth and individuality. I can still repeat the intro verbatim, long ago the four nations lived in harmony but then everything changed when the fire nation attacked! Only the Avatar, the master of all four elements could stop them but when the world needed him most he vanished... Sokka was my favorite, not only because he was a hilarious but because he was a natural born leader despite only being human. My favorite episode is when he trains under the sword master and the rest of the gang can’t figure out what to do without him. Katara and Toph the epitome of great female writing! Zuko and Aang’s stories side by side, the yin and yang. I aspired to create a universe so intricate as this one (even Legend of Korra, I know). Each episode, even really the fillers exposed new aspects of each character which to me was so much more intense than a mere kid’s show. Even today as my husband and I watch it, we’re not bored. We barely cringe at some of the puns because honestly the themes are wide enough to immerse older viewers as well. I don’t know whether to be excited or nervous about the Netflix remake but as far as the original? I aspire to this level of storytelling, truly an inspiration! #sokkarules #cantforgetmomo #avatarthelastairbender #showoftheweek #zukocomesinclosesecond #writinginspiration #immersiveuniverse (at Alhambra Hills, Martinez) https://www.instagram.com/p/B1MY7jDA_Ji/?igshid=stukm0aihww7
