I got a little too busy last Friday to get this post out but I don't want this to get lost in the gallery. Good father's make good decisions. This man came into the shop ( #ironmountainmetalcraft ) to #forge a couple #knives together. I gave my instructions and the son hammered first. He went gung-ho but didn't have accuracy so his marks were all over the place. I gave him some feedback and gave him my usual "Precision preceds power" speech. The father paid attention. He went second and although he was a contractor and had the power he kept his hammer blows on target and very controlled. When the son went again he hammered like a new person. He brought it into control and the two of them forged out some great knives. I was so impressed because I have seen many fathers that want to show up their sons and sons that just want to ignore advice and show they are strong. This father and son duo clearly has deeper character. The father was a perfect example for his son and the son paid attention. I loved it. Blacksmithing is not pure power. It has to be controlled power. Precision must come before power. You must learn to control yourself and listen to thise around you to grow. Take the humility pill and watch your skill set grow. Not all #protips have to do with tools and equipment many #shoptips start within. #kilnacademy #kilnfrog #greatkilnsgroovyprices #lifelessons #character #thepxsmith #strength #precision #livingexample #knifeworld (at Iron Mountain Metal Craft)
