All the Fish Your Fat Face Can Handle
Can we just, like, all come to the consensus that Rick uses his portal gun or spaceship to go to a diner across the U.S.?
Like it took me a while to be aware that Shoneys is a popular diner chain, like Dennys. I thought is was Dennys, but with a different name so they don't get sued. Like replacing apples with pears for a tech company.
The show said that the smith family lives just outside seattle, washington which is on the west coast. Most Shoneys locations are located on the other side of the map. The "closest", arguably, is the one in Texas which is in the south where Seattle Washington is up north.
And then we know from Beth's early years (Rick's "father" years) she lived in Muskegon, Michigan. Also in the pickle Rick episode, Beth suggested a place to spend time with her father which she did mention Shoneys. Which, I thought, maybe Rick took Beth to the diner when she was a child. And since Shoneys is located primarily in the east, it would make sense right? But there is no Shoneys location in that state. The closest Shoneys is in Ohio which is about a 3 and half hour drive from the general area of Muskegon.
Also Rick said that Shoneys (emotionally speaking) is his home in Rickshank Redemption. Although, they said that Shoneys represented his cerebellum, which honestly makes no sense to me. Plot wise, loved it. In terms of using this episode to create semi realistic theories out of, not so great, better yet, not at all. You win some you lose some.
Anyway, this became a long rant. Didn't intend for it to be. Just wanted to point out that Rick goes out of his way, to go to this specific diner for (apparently) no reason. Clearly, it's not for the sake of convenience.

Not art technically but I made a reaction image out of this Shoney’s Big Boy I found in an antique store last week.
You’re welcome to use it if you’d like.
I thought this place only existed in the mind of Rick Sanchez 🤯
So safe. So comfortable. So Shoney's. #rickandmorty #shoneys
