New Masters #4 by Shobo, Shof and Francesco Segala. Cover by Shof and Segala. Out in May.
“The outcasts believe they've gotten away with a priceless alien artifact known as the Eye of Ọ̀rúnmìlà. But when Governor Tosin's elite strike team boards the Sankofa, the crew must call upon every ounce of cunning and skill they possess to make it out alive.”
Gene Clark was quite simply one of the finest and most groundbreaking songwriters of the 60's and early 70's. Right up there with the likes of Dylan and Townes Van Zandt. Like Townes Van Zandt, after an insanely prolific period, he succumbed to demons and we lost him way too soon. He wrote the bulk of the Byrds original material on their first two albums and also their hit, Eight Miles High. But flew the coop by the time it hit the airwaves. Sadly, his solo career never achieved the momentum and recognition it deserved. He pioneered Country Rock with Dillard & Clark and his 1974 album, No Other sank without a trace but remains an utter masterpiece. While his work has attracted a loyal cult following his discography can be a bit confusing and elusive. Here are the essentials. Some of this stuff is admittedly rare and hard to find.
