The shock roach seems to attach itself to Adrian. And its a symbiont. So that means it gains something by being attached to Adrian. And I don't think it just mistakes Adrian for being a viable host because it acts like it can't afford to go without a host for long. So it's probably gaining something by being attached to Adrian.

(It was likely cause of dreamcast port nonsense so it...had less?) The ones here are a “Shock Trooper” and “Shock Roach”. This particular shock trooper is adorned with additional markings and tends to his lil bug a lot. I like to think in a way since they’re not like hivehands that they try to take care of their funny roach like a pet...a pet that is also a sentient bio-weapon in a way.
