whether dazai likes it or not, daichi will always take blows that are meant for him. because daichi can take them with barely a reaction; he’s made to take the hits, and he’s acutely aware that dazai just isn’t. besides, daichi is more than used to taking the hits, and he doesn’t really mind pain, since he knows that if he dies he can simply come back the next time dazai chooses to activate his ability. so he’s not completely surprised by dazai retreating into another room when they return home, but doesn’t remark on it.

daichi has never really been skilled at first aid, something he’s sure dazai knows, so he’d sort of just cleaned out the cuts and wounds with water and had left it at that. he can ignore the sting from them, after all, so really, it’s fine. he does blink at dazai when the other speaks, but only huffs a little. it’s still... odd to hear things like that from dazai, but it’s not exactly unpleasant.

daichi would rather that dazai wasn’t awake - because he knows dazai doesn’t sleep well usually, and that can’t be good for him - but he isn’t at all surprised to hear that he is, indeed awake. daichi had spent a few days just wandering around, thinking about whether or not to return to the apartment. returning seemed an awful lot like giving in and handing dazai permission to say whatever he wanted with a ‘hey i’ll always come back’ card, but the truth is that daichi hadn’t wanted to stay away any longer. if that’s because they’re connected or because of another reason, daichi doesn’t know, couldn’t explain if he had wanted to.

now, though, he only makes a small, contented sound, relaxing under dazai’s touch, before shifting a little so he can look dazai in the eyes, head tilted a fraction. he can never really tell what his host’s thinking - despite their thought process being rather similar in many ways - but for once, it doesn’t even bother him. “... i missed you too. a lot.” he has no problem admitting that much, since he would have thought dazai would know that by now! and he had missed dazai. it had been odd, living without him, like there was something missing. daichi hated it.

perhaps it was that their lives had been so entwined from the very beginning; daichi wasn’t used to not having dazai around. even their arguments, though daichi certainly didn’t enjoy them when they happened, had all turned out fine in the end, and dazai had still been a constant in his life, when so many other things were changing. when daichi had left, and lost all of that, he had absolutely hated it, though he’d also refused to go back at the very beginning.

chuuya did not enjoy being picked up or carried. this was something he’d told dazai over and over since they’d been partners, and yet he doesn’t quite have the energy to kick or fight when he feels dazai lift him this time, though perhaps that could be due to the fever that’s been gripping him over the last few days despite many attempts at proving that he’s not at all sick. seems dazai had seen right through that lie, like usual, and chuuya doesn’t bother to try and break free of dazai’s hold this once, though he would at least attempt to do so usually.
