Itâs Toy Time Tuesday! With ShimmerCorns Sparkle Makeover Galaxie! Not only is TTT on time this time, but itâs got a real digging in review. First to note is that this IS a âkiddie toyâ and I only got her because she was 5 dollars. If she looks big, she is, sheâs a bit over 9 inches tall. To sum up the whole line and the idea of this: An Interesting Idea That Didnât Quite Do It You can SEE what they were going for, first in the name âoh a shimmering unicornâ but they broke up the word and YES everywhere will try to sell you literal ears/cobs and cans of corn when searching. It makes âCornâ too much a part of the label. So the name idea but then it didnât execute quite right. The Eyes There is a âcrystalâ faceted shape of transparent plastic over the eye paint which was an attempt at being âTwinkle Eye Pony Likeâ, however it distorts the eyeâs details when viewed right-on, and looks like odd goo from the face-on direction. It makes the eyes confusing to look at. The hooves: Theyâre pointed like a high heel shoe, but they have random faceting all over to make them âcrystal likeâ but making the only very-smooth and elegant part of the horse be lumpy for any reason isnât...the best? The face: At least the eyes are on the side of the head! It may have the face of a silly fish, but at least they werenât trying to make it into a dog. (Finally) The name: They tried to name her but then they just spelled Galaxy in a different way that manages to sound exactly the same as if it was spelled normally. Again itâs another ânot quiteâ. The gimmick: Itâs a kids thing, so you use the greenish stencil to use the markers on the paper wings. However, theyâre taped into the box plastic & they are simple thinner cardstock so 1 wing will always have tape on it, or rip. You can then store the stencil behind the wing (last photo) and mount the colored paper over the wing as seen.  Box differences: Notice the horn was originally green (did it glow?) And the eye makeup/stars were pink instead of gold. Also if you have to display part of the toy behind itself so that people can see the toy better...it might be something to think of. I kind of mind how close this got to being something really cool? Like the dark purple with glitter plastic is fantastic, 2 colors of spray that goes with it really well (ankle & nose) the almost mechanical look of the removable wings, the neck symbol, hair tinsel/amount of hair, and added 3D detail for the tail and neck. Itâs all great! A gimmick that doesnât ruin the toy (infinitely replaceable paper & re-use-stencils that arenât attached) Theyâre all really good. I consider this like a âfairy horseâ where itâs a totally different thing that isnât/shouldnât expected to look like a horse, but a âhorse-creatureâ. I would not have bought if this was whatever the suggested retail was, like 20 dollars or something (comes with lots of parts, markers, etc) because I donât like the sculpt that well, but for 5 dollars I wasnât going to say no. (Always the question: What is so wrong with horses that they want to make toy horses that DONT look like horses? What is the point of this? It happens all. the. time. âI want a horse toy that doesnât look anything like a horseâ--then what are you wanting! )Â
My wife says I'm "forgiveness", which does sound a bit more respectable.
