Goodbye Tsunemomo!
I announced that I would write a bit more about this today as it’s still very shocking, but Tsuemomo (つね桃) of Shigenoya (繁の家) in Gion Higashi has left the profession. She was always incredibly popular and would often be seen at ozashiki in other kagai! She is among many geiko who retire at age 30 in order to start a family or even a new business venture. She’s been in the karyukai for 14 years (including shikomi time) so she leaves knowing that she has made a great difference in her kagai. You can see some of the announcements of her retirement here and here. We wish her all the best in her new life.
