Prompt: person A and B singing “you are my sunshine” to each other while person B dies in A’s arms
Relationship: Maria Hill x Natasha Romanoff
Warnings: angst
••
A gun shot rang out piercing through the silence of the aftermath of their mission and Natasha instinctively whipped her head around to the direction of her girlfriend of 3 years when she saw the worst sight she’s ever seen. Maria Hill slowly falling to the floor, a bullet having pierced right through her stomach.
Natasha froze. She couldn’t move. Luckily, Clint who was standing next to her saw the Red Room agent and penetrated an arrow through his head.
Maria knew that this would be her end. She knew that this time would come eventually. She lightly turned her head towards Natasha, struggling to keep her eyes open, but forcing herself to, so that the last face she would see would be Natasha’s.
Natasha’s eyes were emty, but once her own blue eyes met Natasha’s emerald green eyes, possibly for the last time, something in Natasha clicked. She suddenly became aware of the situation and rushed over to Maria’s side faster than you could say “tom holland is the best spiderman”.
While Clint was busy calling in the paramedics, Natasha cradled Maria’s head to her heart while using her other hand to apply pressure on the bullet wound. She stroked Maria’s head and begged her to stay with her. Told her she loved over and over and that she couldn’t live without her. She broke into sobs right at the spot and kissed Maria everywhere she could, stopping at her forehead.
Natasha couldn’t do anything except crying. The woman whom she loved more than life itself and loved her back equally as much was dying in her arms and there was nothing she could do about it.
“You are my sunshine, my only sunshine.” She hears Maria’s hoarse and broken voice quietly sing the song they’ve sung together over a hundred times and smiles because maybe this isn’t the end. Maybe Maria has a chance of survival.
“You make me happy when skies are gray” She sings back, applying more pressure to the wound and stroking Maria’s cheek encouragingly.
“You’ll never know dear, how much I love you” Maria replies and gives a small reassuring smile, hoping Natsha would remember this once she’s gone.
“Please don’t take my sunshine away” Natasha finishes the song and holds Maria impossibly closer. They find themselves gazing into each other’s eyes until the paramedics arrive. Natasha follows her through everything until a bunch of agents had to come pry her off Maria’s side because she needed the surgery and Natsha refused to let her out of her sight.

“I love you, sunshine.” Is the first thing Maria says to Natasha once she’d woken up and found Natasha assumingly asleep next to her hospital bed, clutching her hand with an iron grip.
“I love you too, sugartits.” Natasha says while lifting her head to look at Maria, a huge smirk plastered across her face.
That earned her a weak punch in the arm followed up by a sweet and passionate kiss.
