In the prologue of Shields of Dawn, Dawn of a New Hope, Enid leads a force to fend off rebel armies raised by a insurgent nobleman named Lord Terrance. She can't possibly do it alone, as even with her divine blood, her enemies will surely outnumber her.
Luckily, she isn't alone.
Oh, now is also a good time to mention a feature within this game that I thought of; a mercenary system, similar to that of Berwick Saga. Essentially, a majority of the units that you get will stay with your army permanently. These are Devoted units. But there are also Mercenaries; units who you need to hire to fight with you, and who will only fight with you for so many chapters. Mercenaries tend to be stronger at base than Devoted, or fulfill a very unique niche. Where as Devoted units are far more reliable and grow faster, and on your terms.
If one of the Mercenaries you hire enjoys your company, gets a lot of experience under your employ, or manages to achieve specific goals, they may decided to stay with you for longer, lower their rates, or even permanently join you. Be warned though, as if they become injured before they permanently join, they may have to end their contracts prematurely.
Anyway, with that being said, I will now be labeling when a character is Devoted or a Mercenary. I've also been thinking about designing (placeholder) personal skills/abilities for them, but like...that's for later.
A Certragian noblewoman, daughter of a margrave on the Nocivett. Despite her family's protests, she became a knight of the realm instead, seeing diplomatic matters as boring wastes of time. She was a wild, rugged woman, who lives for thrills and adventure, and is unable to sit still.
Josephine is a mighty offensive force, with high strength and great skill with axes. She can deal heavy damage when she starts a fight, and has enough bulk to survive the trouble she often gets into. Josephine is also skilled when allies don't cram her space by standing next to her, enjoying the freedom of movement.
Once the son of a merchant and a in the streets of Phenlory, he and his siblings fled to the country of Certragia when times grew tough and chaotic due to the death of their parents. He did everything he could to have a stable life for his family, becoming a knight of the realm. He is an overachiever who like sticking to a very strict, very unorthodox routine. It's as if a part of him believed not following through with actions perfectly will lead to catasrophe.
Cédric is fast, has decent defenses, and great accuracy. When on the frontlines, though his damage output can be a little lacking if he cannot strike quickly. Though, with the support of nearby allies, he often does gain the strength and speed needed to break through enemy defenses.
A mercenary of Certragia, who grew up under the care of her mother's mercenary band, The Emerald Claws. She felt like her skills and needs were being neglected, though, and set off on her own journey to prove her worth. She is cheerful and very resourceful, but can often be absent-minded or forgetful, as she's never been good at using her head.
Henrietta is incredibly fast, has high dexterity, and dances around the blades of her foes with ease, all of which make up for her frailty. She is especially adept at fighting outdoors, with as little restrictions as possible stopping her from crushing her foes.
A mercenary who’s seeking money for his family. They have lived a simple, if not poor life due to the poverty their village constantly faced. But as a mercenary and hunter, he hopes to eventually bring his friends out of poverty. He is stoic and kind to most, often trying to stay on everyone’s good side. Though, he's a little fearful of making anyone upset, and often fails to assert himself when it counts.
Kai has astounding accuracy with bows, and rarely misses his mark. He's also quite strong, and holds his own in combat, despite his lower evasion and frailty. They gain abilities centered around extending his range and making use of incredible dexterity.
🌑Harris, Deft Canary🌑
He/Him|Human|Class:Rogue->Outlaw/Assassin
Devoted
An urchin who lived on the streets of Certragia as a thief. One day, he ended up trying to rob the royal palace but was stopped by Vaela herself. Instead of having him executed, she took pity on him and decided to take him in, and have him trained to work as a spy, impressed by his ability to sneak past security. He is now a loyal servant of the crown, with rustic charisma, and a keen eye. He still holds sympathy for those who are suffering, and keeps an eye on the common people, helping out whenever he can.
Harris is a skilled man who has incredible evasion and dexterous fingers. While he's not exactly built for a fair fight, he can serve a very useful role, as he often slips by enemies unnoticed, and swipes gold and equipment with ease. And if need be, he is quite swift, and skilled with daggers.
🪨Emlyn, Stern Guidance🪨
She/Her|Human|Class:Paladin
Devoted
Older sister of Archduchess Vaela, and commander of a squadron of Certragia'd strongest knivhts. Over the course of three years, she learned how to defend herself so she could defend her loved ones, and now must raise her blade once more. She has a stony demeanor, but cares deeply for others and aspires to help other reach their true potential.
Emlyn is strong, and is extremely capable of holding her own with a blade, or keeping others healthy with some healing magic. However, as she's already promoted, she has little room to grow, and her strength is best suited for supporting her allies, allowing them to grow so she can stand alongside them in the future.
A tactician in service to Lady Emlyn. Who gained his skills during a time of turmoil in Certragia, known as the Three Long Years. While praised for his skills on the field and his ability to read people at such a young age, he often resents the praise; those skills were gained out a necessity during a dark time he doesn't like to look back on. He's often quiet, and only feels truly comfortable when he's by himself.
Ajax can use potent arcane magic, and has the speed and dexterity to deal decent damage, as well as supporting their allies with a few rallies. He also excels at exploiting any weaknesses the enemy may have, or making the most out of his own advantages.
The son of a Certragian baron, fighting in service of the country as a knight under Lady Emlyn's command. He dreams of following in the footsteps of his father, and ruling the territory he will eventually inherit with confidence. He is humble, quiet and gentle, and is wiling to do anything to help others. He seems to have an inferiority complex, as he's surrounded by many people who he sees as better. than him.
Roark has the makings of an incredibly juggernaut; high defense, great strength and dexterity, enough to match his allies and protect them from harm. Whenever one of his allies are in danger, he moves past the limitations of his heavy armor, and can quickly rush to their aid, shield in hand.
Orphaned at a young age due to the plague, Guerlemmo lived in the outskirts, as a thief, and then became desperate enough to commit banditry. One day, after being defeated by the Shields of Dawn, He laid down his axe, and swore to be a positive force for the world. This doesn’t stop him from being a blunt, brutish bastard of a man sometimes, but he’s honorable enough to know when to show respect to his betters.
Guerlemmo is a strong physical frontliner, with high strength, defense, and decent dexterity. In combat, he showcases abilities centered around taking down key targets;enemy commanders, monsters or other dangerous foes that show themselves.
A priestess from Certragia, who dove deep into the faith after losing her parents. When she was younger, almost no one showed her compassion, so nowadays, she tries to be compassionate to everyone. When it comes to being kind, she's loud and quite assertive about it, and often forces herself to hide negativity behind a smile. She keeps many secrets to herself, the most serious one being under the cloak she almost never takes off.
Caledonia is one of your first main healers, starting with decent stats all around, and serving your party well as a medic. However, she seems to hold some potential for offensive power, her prowess on the battlefield growing as she and her allies around her grow injured.

(I've deleted a lot of older posts about these guys, so if you've seen them before and are confused, that's why.)
Shields of Dawn does something fairly differently than most of the FE games/romhacks that I've seen. And that thing is having way too many Lords.
How it works for this concept is that, aside from Enid-who must be used on every main story map, you must deploy up to two other lords, with a maximum of five if you include Enid. Sometimes, a set of lords are force deployed depending on the campaign.
This post will show off the other lords that aren't Enid(the main character)
🔥Taurn, Solar Flare🔥
He/Him | Human | Class:Warmaster
I know I post about him a lot gimme a break
The crown prince of the Boventian Empire. A renowned warrior and noble who wants to be a pillar of strength to his allies, and to live up to the title of heir to his empire. He's headstrong, sociable and exudes an air of confidence, yet often feels afraid to show weakness in front of others.
Taurn is a strong frontliner with high physical stats and great potential for getting crits or dealing high amounts of burst damage. Though strong, he has lower magical resistance and has a middling speed stat.
❄️Leon, Knightly Ideal❄️
He/Him | Elf | Class: Lionheart
Crown prince of the kingdom of Phenloryn, after witnessing the extent of the chaos that runs amok in the kingdom, Leon goes on a journey to establish order and uproot chaos. He believes that, as a noble, it is his responsibility to help those of a lower class. While Leon is kind and just, his ideals and status are subject to be challenged by many.
Leon is a mounted tank with high speed and mobility, being able to dart around the battlefield with ease. His offenses are slightly lackluster on their own, but often he's resilient enough to hold his own on the front lines due to his high defenses.
🌲Sophia, Evergreen Duty🌲
She/Her | Satyr| Class: Auspex
Princess of the Queendom of Delka. With eyes falling on her to protect and rule the nation due to the disappearance of the queen(her mother), Sophia feels she may buckle under the pressure if her mother or her captors aren't found soon. She's a kind and energetic woman who cares deeply for her loved ones and her country. Her anxiety is often hidden from even her closest allies.
Sophia is a glass cannon with high strength and magic, but abysmal defenses. With high speed and evasion they will be able to handle themselves on the frontlines, especially around allies or in thick terrain.
🔮Noah, Enlightened Agent🔮
He/Him | Human | Class: Grandmaster
The youngest prince of the nation of Nocivett. His odd mannerisms, obsession with tactics and magic, and radical views on society have caused him to be seen as an outcast, yet many must admit his talent for strategy and combat. Still, he wishes to be seen as an equal to his peers and often endures countless struggles in hopes of conforming with his country's expectations.
Noah provides strong magical combat on a horse, though he's most notable due to their incredible supportive potential. He's skilled at rallying allies, to ensure victory with enchantments and buffs in order to rule out luck as a possibility, which ironically means his own luck is poor.
☀️Angeline,Heaven's Grace ☀️
She/Her | Human | Class: Saint
Daughter of the Archbishop of Phenloryn. She was sheltered all her life, not able to see the world, as she was deemed too frail to be a country's symbol of faith. But due to her desire to help others, she left her secure home, and decided to help those in need with what little strength she can muster up. She's often praised for her kindness and patience, but holds little confidence for herself due to her upbringing.
Angeline is a potent healer with incredible magical resistance, and decent enough evasion. She's not the strongest combat unit, but that’s less relevant thanks to offensive spells being strong, and her airborne utility on a pegasus.
🍃Wolfe, Verdant Wayfarer🍃
He/They | Half-Elf | Class: Hawkeye
A renowned mercenary from the union of Pakwil-Chonok, who unbeknownst him, is thr long lost heir of thr country's leader. Labeled a defect at birth he was tossed aside, and was to be raised by commoners and mercenaries, his lineage showing that he is supposedly destined for greatness. Wolfe is a cheerful, free spirit, who has a lot of pride in himself and their skills, and considers themself quite the charmer. But when it comes to the possibility of running a country, they're much less confident.
Wolfe is a flying archer with incredible speed and dexterity, meant to hunt down evasive units or enemy fliers. He makes up for frailty with high evasion and range, as well as decent damage.
🏔Shahriyar, Eclipsing Shadow🏔
He/Him | Human | Class: Mirage
The second prince of the Eastern Thuehaban. While his brother, crown prince Surya is the country's light and future, Shahriyar works from the shadows to make sure Surya's land isn't overflowing with chaos. He has a tongue as sharp as his skills, and is not afraid of dirtying his hands or his soul for the protection of the land he holds dear.
Shahriyar is very adept at getting critical hits, dodging most attacks and countering with debilitating debuffs, all while darting around the battlefield with ease. Their physical might may need a little assistance, but their utility in combat cannot be understated.
🪷Lalithya, Morning Bloom🪷
She/Her | Half-Elf | Class: Starseer
A princess form western Thuehaban, seeking to end the civil war that has been raging within the sultanate. Having lost much to war, plague and chaos, Lalithya has dedicated her life to uplifting people's spirits and spreading peace love and joy. She's very self-sacrificing, willing to endure pain and suffering if it means making sure the future of the people is still bright, many see her kindess as weakness or naivety.
Lalithya is an incredibly valuable support unit with high evasion and decent enough offenses if you must attack with her. But, her true calling is refreshing the turns of allies and providing healing or keeping her allies safe with her passive auras.
🌑Amethyst, Bewitched Blade🌑
She/Her | Elf | Class: Gremory
The eldest living princess of the kingdom Voronia. After a devastating attack on her country from Phenloryn killed her elder brother, Amethyst gave up her peaceful life of studying magic and history to become her country's protector in order to ensure Voronia's stability. She's quiet and has a demeanor, and holds a strong determination to enact justice and take down tyrants. However, underneath her mask of stone cold ferocity is a tired woman seeking to finally know comfort again.
Amethyst is a mighty airborne spellcaster with high offensive power and respectable bulk, who also inflicts heavy penalties on foes both passively and actively. Her main weakness is her low speed, but with her magic and draconic mount, she can keep herself out of danger with ease, and prevent foes from getting the chance to strike her.
💧Wilhelmina, Future's Wings💧
She/They | Ollphiést | Class: Leviathan
Princess of the island kingdom of Scalborn. After years of her people being abused and isolated, Wilhelmina decided to be their voice, and journeyed to the mainland to speak up for her people, and explore the nation. She is often seen as distant or emotionless; it's an intentional image she's constructed for herself to gain respect amongst others. However, she far more susceptible to pressure and fear that she wants to let on.
Wilhelmina is a powerful offensive powerhouse with high magical stats and speed, with her only bane being poor physical defense. With one mighty blast of her magic, she can decimated armies.
