Book Club Review…..The Blossom and the Firefly by Sherri L. Smith A song will bring them together. The war will tear them apart. 1945 Japan Taro is a talented violinist and a kamikaze pilot in the days before his first and only mission. Hana hasn't been the same since the day she was buried alive in a collapsed trench during a bomb raid. Taro is ready to die for qhis country. Hana wonders if it would have been better to die that day. That is until they meet each other. Is it possible to live an entire lifetime in eight short days? The Blossom and the Firefly was a stunning story! It's a story about two people finding love and its a sad story but also moving about life in Japan during WWII. We are always interested in books that can teach us something as well as entertain us so we loved the historical facts. A lot of the realities were hard to take at times but there's a war going on so it was expected. The story switches between Taro and Hana's perspectives so you get to see two sides of the story and what each of them dealt with and felt. Could you imagine being in Hana's shoe having to take care of the kamikaze pilots and say goodbye to them knowing that they will more than likely die? This is by no means a fast and easy read. It's emotional and the pace moves well with the story but it's not a fast pace. It was a compelling, heartbreaking and absolutely wonderful to read story! Thank you The Book Club Cookbook. Today's ebook and crochet is #orleansnovel by #sherrilsmith This title is available as an ebook for $9.99 from both #kindle and #googlebooks and is not available as an audiobook. It is not available to borrow either from #hoopla or #overdrive This is a young adult dystopian published in 2013. I really enjoy the tone and world building in this. The basic premise is that Hurricane Katrina is followed by a series of increasingly devastating storms. These storms are followed by a devastating plague, The Fever. Eventually, in 2025 the Gulf Coast region of the US is evacuated and abandoned. The states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Texas and Louisiana are ejected from the US and remain quaratined. It's believed that not many people live in this region or survived the storms and the break with the government services and resources. The story starts in 2056, 30 years after the secession of the US from these states.
