 Greetings to everyone! It’s been less than a month since my sign up in Tumblr. I decided to dedicate this blog at the science of deduction and “Sherlock Holmes” related posts. As a result, I think it’s a good idea to start with an easy yet fun riddle. The point of this post is to emphasise the importance of observation skills. Sherlock Holmes observes everything and from what he observes, he deduces everything. But enough of this intoduction. Here’s the ridlle:

During an expedition in Scotland, Sherlock Holmes and Dr John Watson were visiting some landmarks. Among others they decided to visit a castle in the area. Unfortunately they knew nothing about the castle’s history, so Dr Watson asked a local, who happened to be around, about the castle. The local told them that he knew everything about the castle’s history and started immediately to tell them the following story:

Once upon a time, a king with his queen and his son lived in the castle. One night they decided to attend a perfomance at the local theatre. They arrived at the theatre by carriage, just on time for the performance. They arrived with their usual cohort of servants and bodyguards. Not long after the perfomance started, the queen realised that she forgot to wear her favourite ring. As a result she asked from the King to assign to someone the task of fetching her ring. The King’s and Queen’s son was the one who had to carry this task out, so he left the theatre at once.

Meanwhile, the queen fell asleep during the performance. She saw a nightmare that her son was attacked by street bandits. They beat him to death, stole the ring and finally murdered him. She woke up petrified and agitated, but she saw immediately in front of her, her son who has just returned holding her ring in his hand. Unfortunately, the queen died right after she saw her son from a heart attack due to fear that grew worse because of her dream. 

After the local finished his story, Sherlock smirked and told the local that his story was absolutely false and fake. 

Why did Sherlock claim that the story was false and fake?
