‘The first time I had to bury Sherlock, I felt so-‘John let out a breath he did not realise he’d been holding. He kept crossing and uncrossing his legs and was playing with a stray thread on the arm of the chair.

‘The first time I was angry so very angry, but I didn’t really know who I was angry at. I just kept playing the dial tone over and over in my head of when he hung up the phone and the flapping of his jacket as he fell. I don’t know why those are the things that keep playing but they-they didn’t stop for months’

John smiled and continued starting out the window, which he had been doing for a solid thirty minutes by this point. Sherlock peered around the corner of the entryway and rubbed his eyes. “John you’re up early.” He said. John gazed over in Sherlock’s direction and took note of his appearance. He hadn’t shaved in a few days and he was beginning to grow scruff. “More like you’re up late Sherlock, do you know what time it is?” Sherlock looked at the stove, it read 10:46 am.

He then scooted over to John’s side. “There was a triple homicide in the paper yesterday.” He said, staring out the window with Watson.

John nodded slightly. “Did you notice we had a new neighbor move across the street?” He asked. He didn’t need to ask, he knew Sherlock knew, but he still wanted to hear him say it. “Naturally John.” Sherlock replied, his usual clever tone in his voice.

John turned and sat down in his usual comfy chair and Sherlock sat down on the couch with a thud. “Could you hand me the newspaper?” Sherlock asked. Doctor Watson scanned the room in search of the paper, he then finds it on the coffee table directly in front of Sherlock. “Couldn’t you just get it your-” John cut himself off. It was pointless. Sherlock was in his usual, “I’m working on a case. Don’t bother me,” face.

John took the paper and set it on Sherlock’s lap, then sat down beside him. “You could take a day off you know.” John whispered to himself. The two sat in silence for a moment before Sherlock decided to reply. “What would you suggest we do on a day off?” He asked.

John thought for a moment. “The zoo.” He said.
