Regarded highly in the eyes of many individuals since antiquity. Around the world this shell has provided susitenaence to not only nourish the body, but heal the soul. Abalone belongs to Marine Gastropod molluscs in the family of Haliotidae. More commonly referred to as Sea 🐌 snails.

Native Americans used Albalone in rituals as a smudging tool feeling very strongly about the energies combined with the smoke from the sage their messages safely traveled to the ether world. When I first learned about this practice I was completely astonished because I naturally felt the need to burn my herbs in the albalone that I acquired a few years ago without any knowledge of the shell itself.

The holes you see in the shell are respiratory pores and they also serve in sanitation. The inside is composed of nacre (Mother of Pearl) which is iridescent and appealing cultures around the world. Popularly used for decorative purposes even today in modern times.
In Apache culture this shell was worn on the forehead of young women in a disc shape during a special ceremony called “The sunrise ceremony” symbolic to making the transition into womenhood.
