BEHIND The RIDE ---
I met Roger Creager in Austin Texas around 2002. We were playing a song swap with several other artists that I believe was hosted by my good friend, Brooke McGuire (who was working in radio there in Austin at the time). I was fresh back from Nashville and it was a real charge for me to have this opportunity and to feel so at home. There was a very enthusiastic crowd at this cool venue and I just remember being blown away by Rogers talent, his powerful presence, and the way he played that harmonica and sang and drove everybody in the room Crazy with his greatness and his songs . It wasn't long after that night, he invited me on an acoustic Christmas tour that I believe ran for about 2 weeks. Then we ended up doing a lot of band shows together for quite awhile and we ALL just became close compadres. At some point before a show I heard Roger singin, "She'll have you back...back to drinkin in no time." HA ! It was awesome that he liked that song and he made that clear every time I saw him. During our shows together his band would come out on stage and sing harmony when we played the song :) Good times !! To me, it's the greatest compliment in the world to have an artist that you respect as much as Roger Creager, singin Your song !!! So fast forward to now. I asked him if he would like to sing that song with me on my new album, he responded with an enthusiastic, "Hell yes !" And so he did...and it's incredible. And because he was the first artist in Texas I became friends with, that gave me a chance to play in front of these great Texas Music fans, which ultimately helped me to find my way, it's only appropriate that "She'll Have You Back" will be the first collaborative single released off the album, "Long Hard Ride." I'm honored and humbled and moreover, I'm so grateful to call Roger my friend :) God bless you and thank you always RC !!! Wait til you hear his vocal...he kills it !!! WooHoo ! - dd
