August 29, 2020- Today we went shell hunting up North at two different beaches. Not sure where exactly- one of the beaches was a place that only our roommate new of. Her dad use to take her there when she was little. We spent all day up north and it was so much fun. This was after we had spent 2 weeks in mandatory quarantine and another 2, with only occasional beach trips straight to the water because of a mandatory stay at home order,… so we were ready to get out. This photo is only the first round of shells. It took us a few hours to find the right spot but once we did we hit the jackpot! The feeling of being in the water under the sun, diving to try and take in everything on the ocean bottom before you run out of breath is the best game to play. How long you can hold your breath, what can you find before time is up, maybe there are some fish, the feeling of finding something so beautiful especially when it isn’t broken is the best…the gifts that our earth and beautiful ocean give us is an extraordinary thing we tend to look over. Every time I found a shell I thanked the ocean for it. I was so in love with the fish I saw, that there were all these beautiful little animals surrounding me, living their own life and I was so lucky to be sharing their home. I was so lucky to be swimming right above them. I never want to get out of the ocean, never want to lift my head out of the water for a breath of air. I never want to stop admiring the beauty that lives under the water, hiding away until you’re up close in underneath with it. I wish I could hold my breath for hours, I wish I didn’t need air. I could sea shell hunt all day and if I didn’t need sunscreen I would never get out. Once I’m in i’m stuck. My sister has to tell me several times that we have to go and I always say 5 more minutes. I rather swim to another part of the beach than get out and walk even if it’s faster because I don’t want to miss what is going on under water. Why would you ever want to walk when you could swim with life so beautiful?
