i.  christine loves to dance the maypole with dani!! she practically begged her to teach her how to do it, and she caught on in no time! she also is really, reaaaally good at helping the other girls bake pies and sweets within the hårga!! i feel like she and maja would get along, too—

ii.  christine makes dani so. many. flower. crowns. just absolutely litters her in them. daisy chains, wreaths, necklaces, bracelets! christine coming back from the hårga just walks around the theater with petals continuously falling out of her curls and skirts and everyone is like what the shit

he is undeserving, he thinks, as he catches her gaze. his hands pause in their movement / a catch of breath, something dark within shrouding! the ghost is selfish enough to allow himself this moment, sealing it away within the thudding cavern of his chest.

❝ i could play another piece, if you’d like. ❞  murmured, tongue as if it was made from lead. his hands rest just above the organ.

❝ i’d like to sing for you. ❞  swell of cheek becomes flushed, the sweetest flesh of a ripened peach! umber curls are not unlike a halo, tossed about her head and nightdress.  ❝ there’s much i’d do for you, you know. ❞

hesitation clings to him like a second skin.  she could never be so cruel. not to him, not to anyone; clad in love and light, all matter of life leaning forth to be blessed by her touch. he, too, longs for such. 

the forest shrouds her.  small frame is engulfed by the sea of trees,  the whisper on the wind & the grit of dirt threatening to settle deeply.  it breathes: how willowy limbs bend & wave,  touching,  reaching,  soaring as she did to get here.  her child is not far off; he screeches his farewell against the clouds & goes off in search of the hunt.

in turn,  the dragon king treads.  damp soil collects at her heels,  cushioning light footfalls as she traverses the unfamiliar landscape.  something tethers maiden here.  a sweet call from the earth?  voices deep from within the ground,  cavernous & melodious with their incessant message?  she dares not look back as the darkness draws close.  lungs feel fit to burst as a sharp breath is drawn.

THEY’VE  BOTH  LOVED  BOYS  WITH  IMPOSSIBLE  TASKS  IN  THEIR  HANDS  .   they’ve  both  suffered  alone  with  the  knowledge  that  one  day  the  beauty  of  life  will  end  ---   or  in  lucy’s  case  ,   tarnish  .   she  watches  the  sea  because  it  is  beautiful  and  presently  she  cannot  cross  it  .

❝    i  will  never  see  them  again  ,   any  one  of  them  ,    ❞    for  the  first  time  she’s  known  dani  ,   lucy  looks  close  to  despondent  .   she  grieves  for  something  old  and  still  fondly - felt  .   everything  dies  ,   lucy  knows  that  .   but  not  her  .    ❝    they  have  died  and  they  have  turned  to  clay  ,   as  it  should  be  .   i  would  not  ask  them  to  love  me  again  if  we  were  ever  to  meet  a  second  time  .   but  we  will  not  .    ❞

LUCY  MAKES  A  NOISE  OF  EXAGGERATED  UNDERSTANDING  ,   though  it  is  sweetly  meant  and  quite  genuine  .   she  seems  to  understand  something  that  was  unknowable  before  .   quite  a  bit  of  dani  ,   in  her  opinion  ,   is  unknowable  .   but  she  knows  power  when  she  feels  it  .
