What is it? A unique streetmap project on the tiny Faroe Islands. With a challenging landscape, and lacking Google StreetView, the Islands’ tourist agency and LiquidMinds used a unique approach to do it themselves. 360o cameras were strapped to the backs of sheep, who were then left to roam freely, capturing imagery and video as they went.

It’s good because as there are twice as many sheep on the Islands as there are people (Faroe Islands literally means “Sheep Islands”) sheep make perfect ambassadors for the Islands. They take the cameras places that cars cannot easily go, and give people across the world a glimpse of the Islands’ beauty. The social media buzz around the project gained the attention of Google, who provided their cameras, allowing the islanders to create a StreetView like no other, using sheep, bikes, ships and even a wheelbarrow!.
