Posted @withregram • @seashepherd 🛑WARNING - GRAPHIC IMAGES!🛑 1428 DOLPHINS KILLED IN FAROE ISLANDS We normally strive to keep our IG feed to the beautiful, positive and inspirational moments from our ships and campaigns - however, extenuating circumstances calls for spreading this incredibly awful news, as the whalers of the Faroe Islands have set a grim record. Sunday, September 12th, 1428 Atlantic White-Sided dolphins were killed by local whalers in the Faroe Islands, possibly setting the record for the largest single slaughter of cetaceans in recorded history. The entire superpod was killed, including pregnant females and young. With the size of the pod, too few boats, and far too few people, the hunt was more chaotic than usual, undoubtedly causing severe distress and suffering to the animals, including several dolphins that were maimed by the propellers of the chasing boats while trying to avoid capture. "These animals are the exact same that people around the world dream of meeting in the wild, never mind a superpod of this size.
