#6. On a sunny Tuesday afternoon, the late sunlight glowing in your hair
“Hey, Catra,” Scorpia says, snapping her out of her daydreams. “Isn’t this nice? I think it’s nice.”
Catra rolls her eyes and traces the rim of her glass with a claw, staring at up Scorpia. “I guess. Still don’t understand why we always have to do this.”
“It’s mandated!” Scorpia replies, smiling wide as she took another bite of her food. “Every Tuesday, Force Captains that can get together should get together for a meal and discuss how things are going. It’s a technique to deal with stress, so we don’t end up too overwhelmed. It was covered in Force Captain Orientation.”
Catra sighs again, staring at up at Scorpia through lidded eyes. “Maybe I really shouldn’t have skipped that.”
Scorpia smiles. “That’s why you have me to tell you this stuff.”
They sit in silence, enjoying the subtle breeze and warm sun after months of harsh cold. They’d just earlier gotten kicked out of a fortress by She-Ra and the Princess Alliance, which had made Catra glum and unwilling to hang out with Scorpia. It was only the promise of seeing the warm sun set that had kept her from bailing.
“You know Catra,” Scorpia says, shattering their silence as she pushed her empty plate aside. “You can talk about She-Ra. Or Adora. That’s why we have these meals.”
“I don’t want to talk about it.”
“Why not?” Scorpia pushes gently, bring a claw to rest on Catra’s paw. “You have to be feeling some way after that battle today.”
Catra frowns, pulling her claw back from Scorpia’s grip. “What exactly do you want me to say? That I’m pissed my ex-best friend never loved me enough to stick by my side? Or that I’m pissed she managed to beat me and humiliate me again? I’m not interested in rehashing this, you know. There’s no way to fix any of that.”
“Well,” Scorpia says. “If that’s the case, you should know that I love you. And I’ve got no plans to abandon you like that.”
“Whatever,” Catra scoffs.
“I mean it,” Scorpia insists, and her claws takes Catra’s paw again. “You’re my best friend, I love you, and I would follow you anywhere. And that’s a promise.”
Catra only rolls her eyes, afraid to admit how much it means for her to hear that.
