Iām curious. Whatās your opinion of Mermista and Perfuma since they are the most villainized characters in the Entrapdak fandom (besides Prime of course); also, what other opinions on the Alliance do you have?
I have fairly different opinions of the two of them but yeah Iāve seen both of them be fairly āvillainizedā both jokingly and seriously by the side of the fandom Iām on.
In terms of Mermista, I see both good and bad in her. She isnāt one of my favorite characters, but I donāt dislike her either. Generally I just want more character development for her and itād fix some of my problems. One part is her relationship with Sea Hawk, which I do think is cute and ship but it needed a bit more screentime to feel a bit less unhealthy, if thatās the right word? Just wanted more hints of their past together, more of him showing he cares about her interests past just āhe thinks sheās a cute damsel in distressā (I hate that one shot in Mer-Mysteries), and more of her showing him kindness past using him as a ride. I still do ship it but I edit it a bit in my head.
As well, I wanted to see more of the impact of losing Salineas. It was a major milestone in the war and felt like a strong emotional point and then kinda just faded away. I could tell some of that anger was taken out on Entrapta, but I wanted it to be explored past that.
In the end, while I feel she couldāve had more screen time and more understanding to Entrapta, I do see where her feelings were coming from. She was hurt and angry and she knew that the two had been close. Post war I see her taking time and eventually settling those feelings, especially with an apology from Hordak and him helping clean up the mess he made. Sheās probably never going to fully forgive what the Horde did in the war, but over time her anger will calm and she will accept that they are still part of the world sheās in. I make jokes about her but I do enjoy her.
Let it be officially stated here that I am not a fan of Perfuma. I hold no grudges at anyone who is, but Iāve personally never particularly liked her past āsheās okayā. Iām sorry š As a concept, I always enjoy seeing how pacifists handle war, and Perfuma is an interesting take on it. I was there for it in season one. Her resistance to fight and than realization that she can be the part of the āuniverse that stops themā is intriguing.
Then she never really develops. She becomes, at least to me, the background main character who either offers unhelpful solutions or gets emotional for no discernible reason. I thought she was okay in the Crimson Waste and shipped her with Huntara but then that also didnāt happen and their friendship never developed. To me Perfuma is just kinda forgettable and occasionally annoying.
And then how she treats Entrapta genuinely makes me upset. She has no patience, makes no effort to understand or meet halfway, and uses that child safety tether twice. When I speak about ableism in the rebellion Iām generally taking about her. And unlike Mermista, she doesnāt have much reason because she acts like this before Entrapta even joins the Horde and makes points like āthe Horde is still peopleā well you sure arenāt acting like it maāam.
I do enjoy Scorpfuma but do wish Scorpia had found someone else? Iām fine with it, they are cute together in the few scenes they have. I headcanon theyāre one of, if not the last couple to get together. Scorpia needs time to recover from Catra and Prime and the Horde and Perfuma needs some changes, maybe by Scorpia, of learning how to actually be kind to everyone, not just the ones she deems good.
In terms of other characters I think Iām fairly with general opinions? My only two perhaps straying thoughts;
1.) I like Glimmer! She is my least favorite out of the Best Friend Squad though. Because of season 4. I, like Bow, love and forgive her, but it still hurts and I remember it quite a bit. Donāt get me wrong, I am a sucker for main characters getting a dark side, I just also am salty about it.
2.) Has come to my attention there are Frosta haters. Guys??? Sheās a kid??? And also sheās the coolest??? (Pun fully intended) I love my girl Frosta. Frosta defender over here. I never found her over the top annoying or anything, it was clear she just wanted to be liked and included, and I love her past of taking over the throne as a kid. My only qualms are wishing her past was dug into more (along with the whole character development) and that she visually aged over the three years the show takes place. But yeah, love Frosta!
