Nya and Aric stepped up for this, along with @shimmer-like-agirlâs smuggler Shawnni⌠since she is Nyaâs bestie ;D Have some post-Fatherâs Day Feels ^,^
âWow.â
Nya chuckled to herself at Aricâs quiet exclamation. He gazed in awe at the swaddled kits in arms, his eyes darting to one then the other quickly as if he didnât want to miss a movement. âYou okay Big Guy?â
It seemed to take a minute for the question to sink in before he looked up, âYeah Iâm⌠IâmâŚâ Sighing deeply, he looked back down at the kits. âWow.â
Nya laughed harder. âGlad youâre happy. A lilâ late to exchange them.â
His eyes flew to hers looking aghast and his arms tightened around the babes before he laughed lightly. âNot on your life.â His features softened with concern as he took in her bed-ridden form. âWhat about you? How you feeling Hot Shot?â
âBeen better,â she replied lightly as she attempted to stretch and winced.
âHey now, donât rush,â he admonished. âI got these two, why donât you take a nap?â
âItâd take a crowbar to pry them from you I think,â she teased and he shook his head.
âNah, I could give them up if I had to.â
Just then Nyaâs keen ears caught wind of a commotion outside her door, along with familiar voice - one that had her grinning widely. âYouâre about to get your chance to prove that. Companyâs here.â
âAlright, whereâs Red at?â
Shawnniâs voice carried down the hall and Aric shook his head. âSo much for restful recovery,â he muttered as he rose carefully and gently handed the kits to Nya then kissed her forehead. âWant me to get rid of her?â
âBite your tongue,â she retorted.
âFigures.â Letting out another sigh he softly booped each kit on the nose then headed to the door and opened it. âOver here Shawnni.â
âThere ya are Fuzzy. Hold up a tick, I ainât movinâ as fast as I like.â
After a few moments a flurry of balloons bobbed through the door, followed by a very pregnant Shawnni. âCorsoâs busy showing off Lani to all the nurses but I ainât in no shape to be standinâ around.â Her blue eyes flashed with ire as she put her hand on her hip and huffed, âAnd here I thought weâd be roomies. Jusâ couldnât wait, could ya?â
âBlame these two,â Nya laughed. âTheyâre the ones who couldnât wait.â
Any trace of irritation faded while Shawnni handed the battalion of balloons to Aric and waddled over to Nyaâs bed. âOh my stars,â she sighed. âWhat are their names?â
âTileel and Essa.â
âTheyâre perfect,â she stated, then as she glanced over at Aric she chuckled, âLooks like Redâs genes were working overtime.â She wasnât wrong, both kits shared the bright orange swath that streaked across their mamaâs forehead and light charcoal stripes.
âJust wait, those are definitely my girls,â Aric proudly assured her.
As if on cue Essa opened her eyes, focusing the amber jewels on Shawnni before yawning and closing them again. The soft coo that escaped the smuggler made Nya laugh and she offered up one of the babies. âSince youâre a pro at thisâŚâ
Shawnni scooped up the kit, snuggling it expertly to her chest then rubbing her cheek on the top of its head. âNever gets old,â she sighed before she winked at Nya. âYou did good Red.â
There was a shift as Aric gingerly perched near the foot of her bed, avoiding sitting on her feet. He beamed as he rubbed her legs and his gaze fell to the twins, âYes. Yes, she did.â

So this post prompted me to look up videos of Timothy Omundson singing, which led to a conversation with @shimmer-like-agirl about Aric Jorgan and Corso Riggs doing drunken karaoke, and well, the whole thing just snowballed from there, leading to this. By the way, I donât know why Garth Brookâs âFriends in Low Placesâ fit this so well, I just ran with it. ENJOY! >~,^<
Oh kriffâŚ
Even that simple two-word thought sent a spike of pain through Aricâs skull. He came to face down in his bed and tried to raise his arm, then groaned loudly at the ache in his joints. Turning over was an ordeal that didnât improve the situation, in fact it sent his stomach spinning like some fiendish top.
Having flipped onto his back, he wiggled his limbs checking for injuries. Thankfully everything seemed intact, just sore from⌠ wait, sore from what? Squinting at the ceiling he tried to gather his thoughts. He didnât remember much, just heading to the cantina with Nya, meeting up with Shawnni and Riggs and, oh kriff.
Groaning again, he managed to lift his hand to his face with a grimace and started rubbing his temple. Shawnni had gotten âsomething specialâ during their last run and sheâd smuggled some into the cantina in flasks for them to try. He hadnât thought much of it until the room started whirling pleasantly and then, white out.
He kept picking his brain, trying to grasp onto bits and pieces of the evening, but all he could remember was the correct method of dismantling his rifle. Suddenly the door whooshed open and Nyaâs silhouette filled the doorway.
âNo light,â he croaked and she giggled.
âGood morning to you too Sunshine. Still havenât recovered?â
âRecovered from what exactly?â
She sounded close to laughter as she carefully sat on the bed next to him. Gentle fingers stroked his forehead and she leaned over to kiss his cheek. âAw, poor baby. Brought some hydration tablets and water. Also got some anodyne capsules, figured an injection stim might be a bit much.â
Water sounded heavenly and he sat up the best he could to take a drink. Nya assisted him, though he could see her smirking while her eyes gleamed with humor.
âAll right,â he said after heâd washed down two pellets. âFill me in.â
âMaybe Iâd better show you,â she chuckled and pulled out a data-pad.
The image on the screen revealed the interior of a cantina, the one theyâd visited last night to be exact. It scanned the patrons, all seeming in high spirits, before spinning around and focusing on Shawnniâs face. She was grinning from ear-to-ear, giggling wildly as she put her finger to her lips.
âShh, shh, shh,â she slurred. âY'all ainât gonna wanna miss this.â
He chuckled himself for a moment. Shawnniâs accent got thicker the more drunk she was, right now she sounded like sheâd whizzed past bombed and dove headfirst into annihilated. The camera spun again as the crowd started hooting and it focused on the edge of the stage. Aric saw himself with Riggs latched onto his hands, trying to drag him onto the platform. Meanwhile Nya was behind him, pushing with all she had.
âOh no,â he moaned, covering his eyes with his hand.
âOh yes,â chortled Nya. âNo use in that.â She tugged his fingers from his face, her smirk widening. âTrust me, youâll want to watch.â
Peering back at the data-pad he saw himself on the stage, a broad smile filling his face as it looked like he protested to a very wobbly Nya.
âHow did you guys get me up there?â he asked
âThreatened to pull the waistband of your drawers up over your head. Now shush, the showâs about to start.â
Morbid curiosity finally got the better of him and he settled back to watch the scene unfold. On stage Riggs was lifting his arms, getting the audience hyped up. Aric winced as Shawnniâs hooting drowned out the rest of the patrons.
âTake it off!!â she shrieked.
âLater, but jusâ for you,â Riggs hollered back, laughing as he pointed at the wielder of the holo-cam.
Behind Riggs Aric could still see himself and Nya, but now sheâd reached up and was tracing his ear as she spoke to him. That patented move almost always guaranteed sheâd get her way and it looked like itâd worked again as he shrugged and nodded. She patted his chest and pulled him into a hard kiss before sauntering off.
Riggs grabbed a nearby microphone, tapping it a couple of times before asking, âWe set?â He then grabbed another and handed it to Aric as the music started.
The camera shook for a moment as if jostled and Shawnniâs voice whispered, âCareful Red.â
âSorry, sorry. Youâre getting all this, right?â
âEvery bit. Iâd kiss a bantha âfore I missed this.â
When the ladies quieted he could hear the music, a slow heartfelt melody. Soon Riggs joined in.
âBlame it all on my roots. I showed up in boots, and ruined your black-tie affair.â
Aric started chuckling again, that sounded like Riggs and then some.
âThe last one to know, the last one to show. I was the last one you thought youâd see there.
And I saw the surprise and fear in his eyes, when I took his glass of champagne.â
Riggs turned and motioned for Aric to move forward, pointing at the close-by monitor with a grin.
âAnd I toasted you. Said Honey, we may be through. But youâll never hear me complain.â
Aric shook his head, his traitorous brain cursing him with a  brief memory of what happened next and he wouldâve covered his eyes if Nya didnât keep a tight grip on his hand, looking exceptionally smug. Holo Aric stepped up as Riggs threw an arm around his shoulder and the pair belted out.
ââCause I got friends in low places. Where the whiskey drowns and the beer chases my blues away.
And Iâll be okay.
Iâm not big on social graces. Think Iâll slip on down to the oasis.
Oh Iâve got friends, in low places.â
âI think thatâs enough,â he said and tried stopping the video, but Nya snatched the data-pad from him.
âOh no you donât,â she grinned evilly. âNot done yet.â
That didnât bode well. Nya held the data-pad so that he could see it - while keeping it just out of his reach - and turned it up while they launched into the next verse. It looked like heâd really gotten into the spirit of things, swaying with Riggs as they sang. A few patrons held up lights, waving them back and forth. What began as a low murmur grew louder and he realized people were starting to sing along. By the time they reached the chorus it sounded like the whole cantina had joined in.
âPssst, hold this Red.â
The whisper was followed by some light shaking of the holo-cam as it changed hands and both ladies started giggling. A pale scrap of fabric sailed through the air, landing at Riggsâs feet, and when he reached down to scoop it up he turned bright scarlet. Aric squinted closer and thought he caught a glimpse of lace between Riggsâs tanned fingers.
âBloody hell, were thoseâŚ?â
âShawnniâs underwear. Dunno if Iâve ever seen Riggs that red.â
Curiosity struck him again and he tilted his head at Nya. âDid you throw yours?â
âI might have,â she cooed, grazing her fingers under his chin. âIf Iâd been wearing any.â
Ohhh. He wasnât sure if it was the hydration tablets or the idea of his commando going commando but his headache seemed to vanish. Tugging her closer he watched as he and Riggs finished up, getting a massive round of applause from the crowd.
âYou guys were definitely a hit,â said Nya and he nodded.
âLooks like. Glad you and Devane enjoyed yourselves.â Rolling his shoulder he groaned quietly at the residual twinging. âRemind me to wring her neck though. Whatever that stuff was itâs got me feeling like I went and wrestled a gundark.â
âNo gundark Big Guy, that was me.â
âYou?â Nyaâs smug smile turned sultry and his memory blessed him with some much more pleasant images from the evening, more specifically what happened when theyâd gotten back to the Spitfire.
âWell I figured one good performance deserved another,â she teased.
âNo holos of that I imagine?â he chuckled and she shook her head.
âNo, but if youâre having trouble remembering maybe I can jog your memory.â Setting the holo-pad on the stand by their bed she started sliding her hands over his chest, still smiling. âAnd if you do as good as you did last night, Iâll play back the applause.â
Got caught up in a vision of my Nya and @shimmer-like-agirlâs Shawnni in an American Old West AU and... well letâs just say I donât think a locomotive couldâve hit me much harder. Not sure where itâs going, but it was fun to start >~,^<
Nya had to fight hard to keep the smile off of her face. Despite the fact that the raven-haired woman pacing in front of her desk looked mad enough to eat a live snake and spit out a belt there was something about her that Nya found amusing.
Maybe it was how Miss Devane flounced furiously in her scarlet dress, or maybe it was the accent that got thicker the madder she got. But most of Nyaâs amusement was probably from watching the emotions flit like clouds across the sky over the face of the man who accompanied her. They varied from anger, to concern, to something only a few shades of deeper than puppy-love.
"Slimy, no-good, stars-forsaken varmint!â she hissed as she stalked across the small room that passed for Nya's office. "When I get my hands on him, I'll, I'll." She glared at her companion, "Dammit Corso, what the hell c'n we do ta him?"
"String him up?" the dread-locked man suggested earnestly, and she threw her hands up in exasperation.
"Nah, too good fer him. Need somethin' slow, painful." The rage on her face faded and was replaced by an evil smile, "What we need is some honey, and a nest of fever wasps..."
"Ma'am," Nya tried breaking in and the woman glanced over like she was seeing the Cathar Ranger for the first time.
"Oh glory, don't call me that. Makes me feel like some ol' biddy."
"Miss Devane then," Nya said, brushing a lock of her auburn mane back from her face. "This would go better if you'd explain what was going on. You said someone stole your cantina?"
"Yes!!" she exclaimed, her skirt whirling as she spun and started another pass. "That rotten, lyin'...grrr!" She stopped suddenly and stomped her booted heel. "Yer the law. You gotta do somethin'!"
"Ma', er, Miss Devane, we're Rangers. We conduct investigations, apprehend wanted felons..."
"THAT'S why I need you," she stated emphatically. "Investigate and apprehend my cantina back."
Nya hid her chuckle by shaking her head, then tilted back to exchange a look with her broad-shouldered partner before addressing the woman again. "Don't quite work like that. Why don't you start from the beginning?"
Miss Devane let out a sigh longer than a breeze blowing across the prairie. "Fine. We got a message from our bootleggerâŚâ
âShawnniâŚâ The warning in Corsoâs voice was clear, as was the meaningful nod he aimed at Nya and the burly Cathar standing behind her. The woman caught herself and started again.
âWe got a message âbout a fresh shipment for my place. Gotta keep the customers happy, ya know.â She winked at Nya and Nya heard a low grumble behind her.
âAnyway, by the time we figured out weâd been euchered and got back, that weasel Skavak was saying the Pearly Gates werenât mine no more.â For a split second her face threatened to crumble and Nya could see how injured she was at the loss.
Her heart suddenly went out to this fiery woman who was hiding her hurt behind a wall of righteous fury. Even Corso stepped forward, his hand raising to comfort her. But the flash of raw emotion was gone as quick as it came and Miss Devane started pacing again. âHe showed me the deed to the building, said heâd won it fair and square. Dunno how that was possible when I had the only copy hidden away. But sure as shootinâ, there it was.â
âDid you take it up with the local law enforcement?â Lieutenant Jorgan finally spoke up and Miss Devane rounded on him.
âI tried! Damn Sheriff Tavus tried tellinâ me the whole thing was legit.â
âTavus!?â Now it was Nyaâs turn to hiss and she heard a low growl from Jorgan. To her surprise Miss Devane nodded with approval.
"Sounds like yer familiar with him."
"Familiar with his work," muttered Jorgan. "Let's just say you wouldn't be the first business owner he's intimidated with that shiny badge of his."
"He was one of ours," explained Nya. "Highly decorated, exemplary record. Then one day he up and leaves saying something âbout being sick of protecting the wrong people. Problem was his departure coincided with a shipment of firearms that disappeared. Feels like there's a connection but could never prove anything."
"So what if y'all could catch him involved in some shady dealings?" A sly smile curved Miss Devane's full mouth.
"Something tells me you're well acquainted with 'shady dealings'," said Jorgan and the woman just shrugged.
"Dunno who yer thinkin' of. I donât run no shake shack and anyone on my payroll is well taken' care of. Ain't that right Farmboy?"
She winked again, this time at the dreadlocked man standing close to her, and Nya watched his cheeks flush bright red. "Best boss I ever had," he stated, fixing his brown eyes on Miss Devane and looking as smitten as a kitten. She laughed lightly and sashayed over to Nya.
âSound like we could help each other. Whatcha say Red?â
âThatâs Captain Lanz to you,â growled Jorgan. âOnly the best of the best get to be Rangers, and sheâs earned a lot better title than âRedâ.â
âSâokay Jorgan,â said Nya as she stood from her chair and stretched. âMiss Devane has been through the mill, figure we cân grant her some clemency. âSides sheâs got a point, we might be able to help each other.â
Nya brushed the ever-present trail dust from her dungarees and out of habit adjusted her holster before heading over to the woman. It didnât escape her that Corsoâs hand went to his own holster as her hand did, and she made a mental note not to underestimate Miss Devaneâs companion. There was a subtle âclickâ behind her as well and she knew from experience her partner had readied the rifle beside his leg.
Turning slightly, she waved her hand to signal âstand downâ, then she finished walking to Miss Devane. âWe help you get your place back, you help us bust Tavus?â
âSounds like a deal Red.â For the first time since entering the Rangerâs office the woman looked relaxed and smiled welcomingly at Nya as she extended her hand. âPut âer there.â
Relief flashed in the womanâs blue eyes as they met Nyaâs - just a lilâ darker than her own ice-blue, noted Nya - and she shook the Rangerâs hand firmly. âWhen do we vamoose?â
Nya traded another look with her partner. âYou should lay-low while Jorgan and I will mouse around. See what information we cân stir up.â
Miss Devaneâs eyes flashed again, but this time the anger was taking over the relief. âHold up. If you think Iâm fixinâ to sit while that four-flushinâ, deadbeat manhandles my baby, you woke up the wrong passenger.â
âNow donât pitch a fit Shawnni.â Corso stepped closer to the seething woman and took her hand gently. âThese good folks have agreed to help, and I believe âem.â
The soft voice and touch seemed to take the wind from her sails as she settled down a bit. She adjusted her skirts with a sniff and pursed her mouth at Nya. âWe have a ranch on the outskirts of Ordsville. Gonna head there and wait to hear from you.â Arching one ravenâs-wing brow she looked skeptically at the pair of Cathar. âI donât wait well.â
âWeâll keep that in mind,â Nya assured her.
With that Miss Devane sashayed out of the office in a swirl of scarlet. Corso stayed just long enough to give Nya a cordial hat-tilt, then bounded after her like a puppy after its master.
The sudden silence boomed through the office and Nya finally gave in to her amusement, chuckling quietly as she perched on the edge of her desk.
âBlazes, that woman has a mouth on her,â said Aric as he walked around the desk to join her, and she shrugged.
âMostly bluster. Canât blame her though. Losing a livelihood could make anyone mad as a wet hen.â Nya smiled slyly at her partner. âSounds like weâre gonna get Tavus finally, though heaven knows how heâs involved with this.â
âNever could figure that man out. Gonna contact Chief Garza?â
âNot yet, letâs make sure this pans out.â
Aric shook his head, âNot sure âbout that Nya. Dealing with that woman is one thing, but not telling the ChiefâŚâ
Sliding from her desk she sauntered to Aric and ran her hands up his chest to his shoulders. His words cut off when her eyes caught his, just before she captured his mouth with hers. He jolted in surprise, then murmured softly, draping his arms around her waist. It was only after dragging the kiss out long enough to make sure heâd been thoroughly distracted that Nya backed away, meeting his dazed grin with a smirk.
âOne day that ainât gonna work,â he warned her while still smiling.
âDonât think Iâll quit trying,â she chuckled.
âPlease donât,â he insisted as leaned his forehead to hers, and sighed. âAlright, if weâre gonna do this we should hit the trail. Should make Ordsville by nightfall.â
âSounds good to me.â She craned up, pressing one more quick kiss to his lips. âLetâs ride Big Guy.â
From the studio that brought you âKiller Kutiesâ, Nya and Shawnni are starring in their second film âBlasters and Ballgownsâ. Ammunition is the ultimate accessory!
@shimmer-like-agirl.... we really gotta to look into those merchandising rights ^,^
Essahad never seen her Aunt Shawnni looking so angry. Sure, sheâd beenirritated before with herand Laniâs escapades, but this time the bright blue eyes that usuallyheld an indulgent glow were fierce and snapping.
âYoutwo coulda been seriously hurt,â she lectured. âWhat were youthinkinâ?â
âWasnâtEssâs fault,â Jayce spoke up and moved closer to her, protectively. âIt was myidea to take out the speeder.â
âJayce, donât!â she hissed and Shawnniâs gaze swiveled between the pair.
âDonâtwhat,â she asked and Essa let out a sigh.
âHedonât have to lie for me. I wanted to take the speeder out,Jayce tried to stop me.â
âHedid, huh?â
Shawnnilooked over at her son who was fidgeting under the intense stare, then folded her arms and looked at Essa. âYoung lady, you realizeIâm responsible for you while your folksâŚ.â The dark-haired womangrimaced, putting her hands on her hips and shaking her head. âDagblast it! Now you got me soundinâ like an adult. Stars I hate that.â
Shelet out another sigh and stepped closer to the younglings, hereyebrows raising when Jayce moved even closer to Essa and took theCatharâs hand. âYou tried to stop her Jayce?â she asked and hestarted blushing.
âYesMa'am.â
âSowhy didnât you come get me?â
â'CauseâŚ.âHis eyes fell to his toes and he mumbled something.
âSayagain?â
â'CauseI hopedâŚâ he started again. â'Cause I wanted to make sureâŚâ
âYouwere makinâ sure she wouldnât get hurt,â Shawnni finished for himand his eyes darted to Essa. She squeezed his hand and his brown eyesflickered into her amber ones.
âYesMa'am.â
Shawnnishook her head again, covering her face with one hand and Essathought her shoulders were quivering with laughter. When sheuncovered her face her expression was still stern, but her blue eyes danced with humor. âNow I donât wanna hear âbout you doinâsomething like this again,â she said, then muttered, âBut Iprobably will.â
Stridingto the pair she surprised them both by pulling them into a hug andruffling their hair. âJusâ try to keep my worrying to a minimum, deal?â

*rubs hands together* Ok, so it was kinda obvious where this was going, and that Shawnni was involvedâŚ.
âWhat the KRIFF!?!â
Nya sat up on the Spitfireâs couch at Aricâs low bellow, wondering why her vision was obscured by a rainbow of steamers. After two clumsy tries, she managed to push most of the bright ribbons from her face and blinked bleary eyes at the scowling Cathar.Â
âWasss⌠gah!â Her breath tasted rancid and she smacked her lips, looking around for something to drink. Half-empty glasses littered the table along with a large platter covered with scraps of cake. She managed a small smile as she remembered the automatically correct masterpiece and snatched up a bite to soothe her abused taste-buds. Aric still looked appalled, his gaze surveying the mess and the sprawled bodies passed out on make-shift pallets.
âWhatâs going on here? Who are these people?â He stepped closer and grimaced as his boot made a squelching sound. âI donât know how many regulations you broke, and why is there glitter everywhere?â
âGreat stars Fuzzy!! You always this loud in the morning?â Shawnniâs voice emerged from under a lump of coats on the other couch, muffled but miffed. âWe were jusâ showinâ Red a good time for her birthday.â
âHer birthday?â Surprise replaced his irritation and he looked at Nya as if seeking confirmation. âThatâs not until next week though, right?â
âShawnni and some friends decided I should celebrate early.â She got up and winced as she stretched aching muscles. A shake of her mane sent a flurry of glitter to the floor, sparkling brightly against the dull durasteel and Aric sighed heavily, shaking his head.
âJust clear everyone out of here. Iâll make sure it gets cleaned up.â
âWhoa, did I hear that right?â This time Shawnni sat up, making a show of cleaning her ears. âFuzzybuttâs actually being civil.â
âIâm allowed to be nice from time to time,â he grumbled, then drew his hand down his face. âIâll go back to my bunk for the next thirty, then get this place taken care of.â He patted Nya on the shoulder gave her a wry smile. âThink of it as part of your birthday gift.â
With a brisk spin he headed back to the crew quarters and there was a soft âwhooshâ as the door shut.Â
Nya traded a disbelieving look with Shawnni, then started rousing anyone still dozing. âThat went better than expected,â she muttered to the smuggler as they picked up some of the more damning evidence and shooed people off the ship.
âGot me there,â Shawnni agreed. âWhoâda thought Fuzzy wouldnât pitch a bitch fit.â Suddenly she froze and she smiled evilly, âThink we should tell him âbout the strippers?â
âOh stars no,â Nya laughed. âHe finds out about them and I might not make it to my next birthday.â
Last night Nya adopted these beauties, a mama Nexu and her cub(in-game thatâs the Nathema Beast and the Experimental Nexu). It looks like she rescued them from some lab, after tearing whoever ran the place a new one. They still need names(taking suggestions for that ;D), but are already very protective of their new mistress.Â
Nyaâs pal Shawnni( @shimmer-like-agirl ) is still questioning the wisdom of having such a large, toothy companion whose eyes glow like headlights, but she couldnât dispute how devoted they are to Nya.Â
Guess Nya has a gift for charming big, angry-looking things >~,^<
BONUS - Nya telling Spike that sheâs no longer an only child
