The Frilled Shark's common name comes from its gills: Unlike all other sharks, which have separate gills, a frilled shark's first pair of gills go all the way across its throat; each pair is lined at the edges with red “fringe.” accompanying its 'fringe' this species has a mouth that is lined with 25 rows of backward-facing, trident-shaped teeth—300 in all. This is the shark that is believed to be the origin behind stories of sea monsters.

lol i was watching jaws today in study hall bc its free with ads on youtube. however, i became deeply upset with the backstory that "a baby thresher shark ate matt hoopers boat when he was twelve" and that is why he likes sharks. now i am a MAJOR shark nerd, i have collected facts upon facts and i have a whole book about sharks.
thresher sharks get to ~20ft long, the babies are 3.5ft to 5ft. i believe hoopers was 4.5ft. also, half of an adults 20ft is their long, whip-like tail meant to lasso up fish. while they get longer than female great whites (15-16ft) again, they're truly only 10ft and a 10ft tail, average shark size. a 4.5 foot thresher would be around 100 pounds maybe. however, my biggest issue is the size of the threshers mouth.
that is not a large mouth. length, 6.8in, width, 5.1in. they consume fish, squid, and birds on occasion. they could not eat a boat that fits a person. it would be LITERALLY impossible, i believe, for such a mouth and such a fish to consume a boat. the story behind matt hoopers obsession with sharks could never, ever happen.
