My children and I suffered terrible physical, verbal, emotional, financial, psychological, and myself sexual abuse at the hands of my now ex-husband and father of my children. There wasn’t just one thing that puts you in the paralysis to stay. The manipulation is strong. The fear often stronger. That matched with both your strengths and weakness, not just weakness alone helped contribute to the illusion of comfort through that fear and manipulation creating, toxic love. My own domestic violence experience started just like I’m sure many others would say. A slow boil. After driving myself in the circles of insanity with all the, “Why’s?” I came to terms with the way my ex-husband treated my children and I had nothing to do with us. But also know that the root of all our problem not only connect to the toxic culture of DV in our nation and his unit with the military, but ultimately his own unresolved childhood traumas.
A large part of my own DV recovery and healing was redirecting the energy that was wasted in thinking in the past and the past actions I could’ve made. They become too many to count, and too many things to give my power once more. With that energy I decided to redirect my focus to helping others in the multiple stages I seen my children and I. With this energy I forged a new spirit of determination allowing me to create Helping Others Onward HOO. Continually making forward movement to enact meaningful change for DV and all types of traumas, I’ve devoted my focus to healing trauma wombs through reforms and meaningful change. Here my ultimate goal is not only providing to help my children not carry any toxic cycles and maintain a well rounded healthy life after DV, but making this reality available to other families, specifically children after exposure to DV and trauma.
