Hmmm, yeah, I kind of touched on this before in a past post, but I am realizing, more and more, that unless there's a good reason, like say for example, the Beast in Disney's Beauty and the Beast (and ONLY because iirc, it was said that the Beast was losing his human mind the longer he stayed in Beast form, miss me with the Disneyfied Fabio that was his human form), I really don't like stories where a nonhuman/half-human character's 'happy ending' has them just becoming a normal human.
As a mixed-race kid, I always loved half-human/shapeshifting characters, or characters that were mixed in some way (i.e. Balto from the '90s movie of the same name, who was half-wolf/half-husky), because I saw myself in them without even realizing it yet, so idk if this is just me looking too deeply into it, but as someone who, for better or worse, has always, at the end of the day, taken pride in being a mixed-race person, someone sometimes literally giving up part of themself just...doesn't sit well with me.
