Lil tiny Shane clashing with his classmates because he's weird and sensitive and too quiet and gets blamed for things all the time coz he never understands exactly what people are expecting from him and they all get mad about it in different ways all the time. He gets anxious easier and his parents can tell he's getting overstimulated and just needs things like more silence or more explanation etc. He's so smart and sweet but he's too blunt and doesn't understand how to be a boy or how to have a crush or how to be normal.
And Yuna worrying over how to help him. David's solutions are sometimes too...free. Shane can't do everything a white kid can. Not without additional punishments on top of everything else. David is learning that only now. Yuna already knew this ofc.
His parents clashing with other parents and the school because of the way they quietly but firmly isolate Shane and find him lacking. Yuna not being taken seriously enough by any of these people even though she can and does perform class and whiteness better than the actual white people. But it's never enough ofc. They don't respect her. After all, they Are white. They don't have to perform it.
Yuna being called into school when Shane gets in trouble and she's fiercely on his side ofc. But things don't actually go their way until David shows up and charms people in his own quite way. David says all the same things Yuna does, but this time, they listen. HE doesn't get accused of being overbearing or too angry or too young-looking etc. And Yuna and Shane share a look when they're off to the side. Yuna telling Shane that he can always tell her what really happened. They would believe him. He doesn't need to lie or keep secrets ever. David telling him the same on the drive back home. Shane nodding. He will remember this too.
