“I’ll do it,” Ian turns around to see his husband standing in the open sliding door to their balcony, exhaling his cigarette.

“Do what?” Ian asks casually even though he already knows the answer.

“Fuckin’ punch the rich pricks or whatever,” Mickey says. “Sounds way better than staying in this apartment.”

“Mick,” Ian says in a warning tone as Mickey walks up to Svetlana.

“How much you payin’?” Mickey asks his ex-wife. “Actually it doesn’t matter, first time will be free then we can talk about rates.”

“First time?” Ian almost yells. “Mickey think for just half a fucking second. Don’t do something that can get you in trouble.”

“Yeah and don’t pretend it’s your first time punching someone because Svetlana told you to,” Lip quips from the couch, earning him a hard stare from Ian.

“Here’s the address for PTA president,” Svetlana says, handing Mickey a slip of paper. “Do as you wish.”

“How is this the first time I’m hearing about an ex-wife?” Tami says in disbelief. 

“You know Mickey has a kid too?” Mandy shares.

“Shut the fuck up jerk face,” Mickey scolds his younger sister.

“Holy shit,” Mickey hears his husband gasp. 

“If it’s the apartment manager tell her that the damn sign at the pool says nothing about not pissing in it,” Mickey says as he sits down on the couch. One of their neighbors caught Mickey relieving himself in the pool and Mickey has been waiting for the dumb bitch with the stupid diaper wearing dog to show up.

“Oh my God, come in,” Mickey rolls his eyes. From the excitement in Ian’s voice it’s probably some Gallagher that’s come to ruin their date night. “Are you hungry? Can I get you something to drink? What are you doing here?”

Mickey looks over and he sees who Ian is talking to and he feels the floor beneath him disappear. The person who entered through their front door is one of the biggest regrets. He has a recurring dream, or is it a nightmare? When he closes his eyes at night he relives the day his mother leaves and how she kneels down on his level and tells him that it’s his responsibility to take care of his sister, that it’s his job and that she trusts him to always do the right thing. At first he kept that promise but after a few years, without meaning to, he let that responsibility go.

“Hey Assface,” the surprise visitor greets.

“Mandy,” Mickey whispers.

“Which Fast and the Furious are we on?” Ian asks as he turns on the TV to get the movie queued up.

Ian and Mickey have been having a month long marathon of the car movies but Ian has lost track.

“Does it fucking matter?” Mickey points out as he takes two beers out of the fridge. “We’re just gonna watch the first five minutes and then bang.”

Ian rolls his eyes. He knows his husband is right but he wants to keep the integrity of the marathon.

“Just order the pizza, I’ll figure out the movie,” Ian tells Mickey.

“You want sausage or pepperoni?”

“Can we have-” Ian starts to suggest.

“Don’t say that veggie pizza shit. I’ll get you a side salad but I need meat or else I’ll be very cranky.”

“You’re always cranky,” Ian smiles. It makes him happy that Mickey knows him so well.

Then a heavy knock on the door echos through their apartment. The husbands stare at each other, they weren’t expecting anyone.

“Don’t fucking answer that,” Mickey glares at Ian walking towards the door. “It’s date night.”

“What if it’s an emergency?” Ian says as he gets to the door. He opens the door and is shocked at who he finds on the other side.

Mickey sits in his car waiting for his cigarette to burn out, that’s when he told himself that he would get out and punch the PTA president who was currently trimming a rose bush like some old queer. Mickey doesn’t completely understand why he agreed to his ex-wife’s proposition. Maybe because after all these years a part of him still considers Svetlana and Yevgeny part of his family. Or it could have been the annoying amount of unwanted visitors that kept entering his apartment last evening.

He wished Ian had a bit more of a back bone to turn people away. Not everyone needs to come running to them with every single problem.But he supposes that's why he’s in this car stalking the PTA president of the school for the kid that probably doesn’t even know who he is. Because that’s what family does. They look out for each other. Damn, maybe he needs to apologize to his husband. Mikey hates apologizing.
