Okay, we can all agree corruption arcs are superior to redemption arcs. But consider: Jonelias AU where Elias falls in love with Jon and all of his careful plans crash down around him because he keeps foiling each of the entities attempts to harm Jon. He says 'next time' to himself. 'Next time I will be able to stomach it when Jon is hurt. I won't interfere.'
Meanwhile, Jon manages to work out he is serving a fear God/ works out who Elias is, and he is totally on board with the end of the world.
He starts putting himself into dangerous situations to get marked. And Elias is having a panic attack about it, that he can't protect Jon. Elias won't allow himself to die, and he's certainly not letting Jon leave him, let Terminus take him away. He considers appointing a new Archivist so Jon will be safe.
And then there is a confrontation scene, where Elias realises that Jon Knows, and he's so relieved he doesn't have to abandon his plans to rule the world, scraping by on borrowed time and corpses that are yet to fester.
