Haunted
There was a version of myself That existedĀ when you didn'tĀ
I search for herĀ in vain
my mindĀ has walled her off, Deemed her a foreign entity
and instead,Ā the versionĀ That knew you has engulfedĀ my beingĀ
I sense youĀ In everything:
The cool breezeĀ That mocks meĀ With memories of your warm embrace
The cruel trick Of memory Fills the still airĀ With your scent
Every objectĀ you have touched Every wordĀ you have spoken
All taintedĀ by your essence
But you are gone.
You have beenĀ laid to rest I watched asĀ Your body was lowered Into the depthsĀ Of the earthĀ Then sowed flowers Surrounding Your hedge, Guarding your rest
Yet you are anythingĀ but resting in peace As your shadowĀ Looms over my mind
Is it because I Constantly visit your grave?
By my own faultĀ You have been tetheredĀ To this realm of thought
Have my tearsĀ Supplied you with life And allowed you To take supernatural form?
Because it seems your ghost Has found its home, Haunting me, In the unused corners of my mind
