#shadowheart fluff

Shadowheart gave you a kiss on the forehead and both of you drifted back to the dreams with you in her arms. 

When you wake up again, you're no longer in the embrace of Shadowheart. You were in confusion for a few minutes until you smelled the scent of freshly baked bread, the bittersweet of coffee’s scent coming from the kitchen. You quickly wash up yourself and skip your way towards the kitchen, excited like always to eat Shadowheart’s cooking. 

“Look who finally woken up,” you made your way next to Shadowheart, she gave you a quick morning kiss and passed you a plate of mixed fruits, you made your way to the back door and got welcomed by all of the animals both you and Shadowheart adopted. 

“Good morning to you all,” you chuckled as you watched all of them circling around you, you picked a space and placed the fruit plate on the floor. The pets couldn't wait anymore, they were already digging in. 

You returned to Shadowheart, hugging her from her back, planting soft kisses on her neck, wondering when the breakfast would be done. You turn into a koala bear, you cling onto Shadowheart everywhere she goes until both of you are seated down by the dining table. 

After breakfast, Shadowheart and you will have only different duties, she will be grooming the pets while you'll be cleaning up the house. 

You looked at the art portraits of you and Shadowheart painted for each other by the fireplace while you're cleaning. You remembered that day, both of you used the shade of the tree to block out the sun, holding hands, watching the pets running free on the field. You brought out the paints and two empty canvases, challenging her to paint, then let the pet pick who painted better. 

You painted the colourful flower field with Shadowheart standing in the middle, how the wind gently blowing by, lifting the silk of the dress along with it, Shadowheart had her hair down, white as snow, pure, looking like a princess who finally discovered freedom. 

As for Shadowheart, she painted the moment when you, her and all the other party members reunited again, the joy on your face, the hair that she braided for you that night, the perfect details. 

The competition was a close call when Shadowheart asked all the pets to pick who’s the winner. Shadowheart won the competition because of the squirrel she adopted a few months ago. The squirrel has been your little enemy since then, all because she kept on sticking onto Shadowheart whenever you wanted to hang out with her. Months passed, you and the squirrel made peace, all thanks to the speak to animal potion, both of you talk out the terms. 

Time flies fast when you’re focused, the chores have been done so you and Shadowheart decided to sit out at the bench, enjoying the afternoon breeze. You rested on Shadowheart’s shoulder as she rested on top of your head, enjoying the cold tea you have brewed while cleaning up the house. 

Since Shadowheart had made breakfast for the day, you take the turn to cook dinner. Shadowheart would sit on the counter, sipping her favourite wine, drinking the sight of you cooking. Whenever you pass her just to grab something, you will take a chance to steal a few kisses from her. Meantime, she will tell you about all the adorable things the pets did during the day, and you can hear the pets responding to Shadowheart’s comments from their shed just by the kitchen window, you will just laugh along because Shadowheart will try to argue back with the pets while she basically on the losing side but that doesn’t stop them to have a cute interaction. 

After dinner, both of you will take a walk by the beach, taking off the shoes, allowing the sea to brush through both of your feet, the coldness that brings refreshment. Holding hands, walking next to each other, Shadowheart would look at you with those lovely eyes, listening to every word you say, perhaps some old story you haven’t told her yet, she listens to it all. 

You and Shadowheart ended your day filled with activities, it’s time to hit the bed. The squirrel will be sleeping in above both yours and Shadowheart’s head, you feel the warmth from Shadowheart’s hand, running gently on your arm, causing a little tickling sensation. You would try to ask her to stop, despite you enjoying it, having Shadowheart’s touch on you, makes you feel alive, belonged. 

You snuggled up to Shadowheart, you could hear her calm heartbeat, like a lullaby. Shadowheart gave you a kiss on the forehead and fell asleep together. 

Morning arrived, you opened your eyes, finding yourself alone on your bed. You got out from your bed, washing up yourself then sit in front of your study table, turning on your computer, staring at your screen as a voice played, 

Shadowheart leaves the House of Grief with a heavy heart, and heavier hands as she leads her mother and father to the camp she has made with you. It’s unusual, she thinks she has her father’s face and her mother’s eyes. It’s hard to look at them for too long, as each glance their way means another terrible memory plucked by the hands of gods to mock her despite it all.

She awakes to the sound of a knife scraping. She knows that sound, she thinks - the sound of it cutting through flesh until it meets bone and still cutting even more. When green eyes focus from the blur of sleep Shadowheart follows the sound to your bedroom; separate from hers in the Elfsong Tavern. The sun peeks from the windows and Shadowheart thinks the sun rises only to flush you in pastel pink and oranges.

You’re sitting there, still in your sleep clothes and your hair falls around your ears in a way that makes her heart sigh. You are quick to find her, turning your head with the fluidity of an owl to meet her gaze. Shadowheart isn’t surprised - you’re just like her, hiding in the shadows from the pain of the light. It’s hard to believe it at times, Shadowheart thinks the sun and moon exist only to paint your skin.

You say her name, she responds and she is at your side sooner than she’d like to admit. Sitting next to you, curling into herself to be as small as she likes ; you bring out that side of her like peeling the oranges you shared with her last night at supper.

“What are you doing?” Shadowheart asks you and you jut your head to trays filled with food. Bowls of porridge, cups of water and peeled apple’s perfectly cut. Her gaze follows an invisible line and lands to your own hands and finds you carefully peeling a third apple. You hold the knife delicately, deliberately as you let your thumb rest on the back of the blade. The sound of the blade cutting through the fruit is not the same scraping noise that cutting through flesh makes. Shadowheart swallows as she lets that memory go and replaces it with how you peel away at the apple.

The sound is soft, and there is no blood, only soft bubbling sweet juice that drips onto your fingers. She leans her weight onto you and sits in the silence. It’s easy how simple it is for her to imagine doing this with you sitting on a porch to a cottage you share. It makes her heart sing and ache all the same.

The sweet silence is broken by you - your voice timid and shy. It makes her smile for she has never heard you sound like that.

“It’s for your parents. They are eager to help at camp but they deserve some free time after everything. I’m planning on going out later to get better clothes for them.” You list off, eyes wide as you peer down at her. You swallow and lick your lips.

You are nervous, she realizes as her smile never slips.

“Do you want to come? Your parents can come too. Just the four of us.” What you left unsaid is brought to life on her lips.

“Like a family.”

You nod. It’s painful for you too.

“Like a family…if you feel you are ready for something like that.” You add and her heart softens, shining like the silver of her hair from your gentle consideration. She takes her hand in yours, your thumb going to rub at the faint scar on the curve of her palm. Your touch is gentle, soft like the wind in her hair so unlike the pain of Shar’s caress.

Shadowheart allows her whole cheek to be placed against your shoulder.

“I’d like that…I’m ready for that.”

You squeeze her palm, goosebumps rising alongside her flesh at how warm your flesh is - her tender and soft warmth in a world filled with cold darkness. Shadowheart lets her lips settle on your fabric covered shoulder and lingers to pour all her love for you through a single action. She parts without wanting to but smiles at you and says she’ll wake her parents. You smile back and utter that you love her.

Shadowheart repeats it and as she walks through the doorway to the other rooms where her parents are resting for the first time in a long time the walls change and it’s easy for her to imagine the same little cottage filled with nothing but you and the care you give her.

Shadowheart looked into her lover’s eyes to find them bleary but staring at her, a sort of drunk smile on her face. “D-did you know yo-you’re pretty.”

A flush raised to Shadowheart’s cheeks, but she tried to ignore it. “You have a concussion.”

“Concoosing” - Prisma tongue not working with her to be able to say all the syllables to “concussion” - “or not! I still know you’re p-pretty.” Briefly Prisma’s purple eyes closed as Shadowheart murmured another healing spell, looking at peace for a moment but muttering to herself; “smart, beautiful, stunning, kind, pretty, beautiful green eyes and prettiest hair.”

Prisma’s hand raised shakily and brushed some of Shadowheart’s bangs behind her pointed ear.

“You lost a lot of blood, now you’re talking nonsense.” Shadowheart grabbed her hand that brushed her hair, pressing a kiss to her calloused skin before resting it on her lap. Trying to keep her lover’s hands to herself so she could focus.

“I am speaking truth.” her lover pouted.

“Hey, how is she?” Shadowheart looked up to Karlach who was looking down at them, also not looking too hot herself, but nothing compared to the wood-elf sitting against the pillar who was muttering to herself on how much she liked kissing her and holding her hand.

“Cuts slowly being mended, but definitely have a concussion. A couple days' rest would do good for her. All of us.”

“Karlach!” Prisma suddenly exclaimed drunkenly once she saw the tiefling. “Is-isn’t Shadowheart p-pretty!” The wood-elf raised her free hand to cup Shadowheart’s face, squishing her cheeks slightly as she turned her head to look up to Karlach more. The blush on Shadowheart’s cheeks darkening against her will.

Karlach let out a snort as an amused smile tugged at her lips as she turned her gaze to their concussed friend. “The prettiest one next to me.” The tiefling agreed and Prisma grinned happily, like she was proud of herself.

“See! Y-you are pretty!”

“Thanks for indulging her.” Shadowheart grumbled, prying her lover’s hand from her face and pinning it to her lap with the other one. Karlach took this moment to leave the two alone, probably tell the others they would make their way back to camp. “Let me heal you, please.”

“What do I get if I do?”

Shadowheart took a moment to think what her concussed lover could want from her, closing her eyes as the exhaustion was beginning to hit her all at once. Both from the battle and now the wood-elf in front of her. “You get a kiss if you let me heal you.”

“Ooooo-kay,” Shadowheart drew out, immediately retracting the pencil, “Then I’ll stop -”

“No!” Lae’zel said, opening her eyes. She grabbed Shadowheart’s wrist lightly, “Don’t stop…” She looked down, slightly embarrassed, “…it feels nice.”

Shadowheart, smiling smugly, started to trace Lae’zel’s eyes once more, “That’s what I thought.” She murmured, concentrating on her eyes again. Lae’zel huffed, but didn’t say anything else. Working for a few moments in peaceful silence, Lae’zel spoke up again.

“Thank you,” She said, softly, “This is new. But it is…nice. I…appreciate it.”

“You’re welcome,” Shadowheart offered, “It’s nice to have something to do that doesn’t involve blood and trying to kill parasites.” She put the eyeliner down and picked up some rouge, dipping her finger in the pale pint pot.

“But I enjoy blood and trying to kill parasites,” Lae’zel said, “So I do not understand how I can also like this.”

Shadowheart sighed, “Because you have the ability to contain multitudes. Just because you enjoying murdering – maybe a little too much? – doesn’t mean you can’t also enjoy lipstick.”

“Hmm.” She replied thoughtfully, puckering her lips in thought.

In a rare move, the party had a night where there was no blood from battle to wash off, or journey to continue. Able to take a break for the evening to do whatever their heart saw fit, Lae’zel had approached Shadowheart, asking about the coloring on her eyelids, wanting to know more. Cut to twenty minutes later, Shadowheart was practically straddling Lae’zel, giving her a full makeover with every arsenal in her makeup box.

“Okay, now just for some color on your lips, and you’ll be done.” Shadowheart said, bringing out a dark, ruby color. Lae’zel looked at it, her eyes widening. When Shadowheart saw this, she chuckled, “Trust me. It will look nice.”

“Okay…” Lae’zel nodded, “And after you’re done, it’s your turn.”

“…what?” Shadowheart asked, taken back a bit. Quizzically, she looked at Lae’zel.

“After you are done painting my face, I shall paint yours.” Lae’zel said, speaking as if Shadowheart was a child. Shadowheart pursed her lips, applying the lipstick.

“…alright.” Even though she was fearful of what she would end up looking like, she agreed. After all, it was very rare that her and Lae’zel shared in similar interests, so this moment in camp was very nice.

As soon as she was done with Lae’zel’s lipstick, Astarion walked by, coming back from a hunt. He stopped in his tracks, looking between the two of them. He smirked and tilted his head, his eyes glittering.

“…what are you two up to?”

“Shadowheart is painting my face because I can enjoy both murder and lipstick.” Lae’zel replied.

“…okay.” Astarion said, furrowing his brows and walking away.

Lae’zel stared at him as he walked away, and excitedly turned to Shadowheart, “My turn.” She said mischievously, her eyes widening at Shadowheart’s makeup box. Picking up a coal stick for eyeshadow, she motioned for Shadowheart to close her eyes. Begrudgingly, she closed her eyes and almost immediately felt an intense pressure on her eyelids.

“Ouch! Not so hard…you can do it really lightly to transfer the color.”

“Apologies.” Lae’zel grumbled, pulling the stick back. Then, Shadowheart felt a light pressure, rubbing back and forth, After a moment, Lae’zel’s finger was rubbing the coal in, extending much farther out on Shadowheart’s face than just her eyelids.

“Blush.” Lae’zel grunted as Shadowheart opened her eyes. When Shadowheart could see again, she saw Lae’zel grinning from ear to ear, obviously enjoying herself with the makeup. Taking the blush, she scooped a dollop much more than necessary out of the pot. She smeared it on Shadowheart’s face, murmuring under her breath.

“Um, Lae’zel-”

“Shhh!” Lae’zel shushed Shadowheart, furrowing her brows in concentration. She pulled back, examining her work. Rubbing in the blush a little more, she nodded in approval and pursed her lips. “Lipstick. Then done.”

She grabbed the lipstick – a bright, pink shade Shadowheart hadn’t touched in years – and made a kissing face, forcing Shadowheart to mimic it. Slowly, Shadowheart puckered her lips and Lae’zel rubbed the lipstick on her. After about 10 swipes on each lip, Shadowheart was starting to feel like she had an excess of oil on her lips, and was about to try and interrupt Lae’zel again. Suddenly, Lae’zel pulled away, her eyes shimmering.

“Beautiful.” Lae’zel whispered, smiling. She got up and went to her tent, and Shadowheart could hear her rummaging around. Astarion made his way over again, the same playful smirk playing on his lips.

“Ah!” He gasped when he finally got close enough, “Hells, you look like that Dribbles the Clown fellow…after he was decapitated.”

“Shhh!” Shadowheart shushed him, rolling her eyes, “It’s all in good fun, Astarion. Let Lae’zel relax a little, okay?”

Lae’zel returned with a mirror, holding it up too close to Shadowheart’s face, “You are stunning. A vision.”

Shadowheart looked in the mirror and winced, Astarion’s Dribble the Clown comment making sense. Just past the mirror, Lae’zel smiled, waiting for Shadowheart’s opinion. Smiling the best she could – without making the lipstick crack – Shadowheart nodded.

“Verrryyyy niiiiice.” She said, giving Lae’zel a thumbs up. Lae’zel clapped.

“I like lipstick. But I also like murder! This is fun. Can we do this again tomorrow night?” Lae’zel asked. Astarion snickered and raised his eyebrows at Shadowheart, who sighed and nodded.

“Yes, we can do it again tomorrow.”

Lae’zel smiled again and took the mirror back to her tent, leaving Astarion alone with Shadowheart. She eyed him, crossing her arms.

“Yes, it’s just an old wound that hurts me from time to time. Nothing to be concerned about.” Shadowheart assured her as she rubbed the hand. Prisma finally noticed the black spot on the back of her hand. “It’s just something… I have to live with.”

“Dose it hurt?” Prisma asks, then immediately cringes as she realizes how stupid of a question that was. The woman just yelped out in pain, of course it hurts. “Sorry- that was a stupid question.”

“It’s okay.” Shadowheart muttered. “It hurts quite a lot, but it passes quickly. So I can manage.”

Prisma left it at that, but the more it happened, the more it pained Prisma to watch each flinch and yelp. Sometimes when she would smile at Prisma, her hand would flash and the smile would drop. A pit quickly developed in Prisma’s stomach, she wanted to make it better, especially when she was the source of making Shadowheart smile or laugh. The reveal of it being the act of her goddess Shar as a motive of punishment fueled that pit in Prisma’s stomach. She realized she wanted to make Shadowheart happy, to be the source of her smile, but without any involvement from Shar. Anytime it would happen too Shadowheart would request they ignore it, it moved on quickly and she didn’t want to put any attention onto it. As much as selfishly Prisma wanted to make it better, she respected that wish.

Once the two had become more than friends was an emotional day for Prisma and Shadowheart. It surprised Prisma she truly did feel the same connection, but was elated she wanted to pursue that feeling. But seeing the shock of pain now being Shadowheart’s lover brought a pain to Prisma as well. The last thing she wanted to do was make Shadowheart’s pain about herself, so she kept quiet, respected her wishes on ignoring anytime she heard the woman she cared for deeply yelp out “it hurts!” But watching the person you care for going through a pain caused by another just “because” was a pain Prisma didn’t know how to deal with. So she buried it, it was the best she could do.

“I-I haven’t said this to anyone before.” It was dark out, the stars twinkling above them as the moon watched the two lovers sit by a lake by themselves. Prisma had asked Shadowheart if she would meet her here at this lake when they got back to camp. Spend a night without the prying of their friends back at camp, and it’s been a while since it’s been the two of them. Besides, Prisma wanted to talk to her without anyone overhearing her.

“I’ve told people I care for them, that the care I feel for them is deep. But these certain words always get stuck in my throat. Never able to be uttered to anyone.” Prisma nervously picked a daisy close by her, holding up the tiny flower and rubbing the stem between her fingers to have the flower spin. “These words are terrifying, if I’m perfectly honest. I was afraid to say it to anyone. But… No matter how little time we’ve been traveling together, I can’t help but find myself not terrified to say it to you.”

“What are those words?” Shadowheart whispered, like she spoke any louder she would spook off the druid.

She looked down to Shadowheart, the beautiful woman lounging with her at the edge of a lake. Her chest bloomed happily the more she looked at Shadowheart as she patiently waited for her lover to speak. Prisma raised her hand, tucking the daisy behind Shaodwheart’s pointed ear.

“... I love you.”

She swallowed nervously as she watched for any reaction from Shadowheart, the tiniest out, any moment of rejection that could be coming her way. But all she found was a smile that pulled at her lips, making Prisma’s own smile grow.

“I love you, too.”

Shadowheart scooted closer to the other woman, slotting herself against Prisma’s side. Raising her hand to cup her cheek, brushing her thumb across the apple of Prisma’s green freckled cheek. It was either the relief or a magnet that pulled Prisma into her and pressed her lips against her lovers. She didn't care which it was.

Kissing Shadowheart had quickly become a favorite thing for Prisma to do. Typically in front of the others, the ones they would share in front of the others was soft, Prisma’s hand gently on Shadowhearts waist to pull her in as they make the kiss quick. But these ones, without anyone to see or interrupt, were the best ones. The way she slots herself against the wood-elf, leaving almost all her weight to be supported by her lover. Sometimes nipping at her lips just to cause a giggle to rise out of Prisma was adorable at how satisfied she was with herself. Shadowheart lets Prisma run on of her hands from her cheek to cupping her neck, able to feel her heartbeat faintly against her thumb as she deepens the kiss between them.

Prisma could do this forever.

Slowly she reluctantly parted the kiss, a joyous smile on her lips as a new euphoria filled her. The girl she told she loved, loved her back! This was the first person she’s ever truly meant it and knew that’s what she was feeling.

But the elation quickled faded.

Shadowheart let out a yelp, her hand jumping off of Prisma’s cheek to grasp her left hand, a pained expression as she whines, “it hurts!”

It was quick to fade but the smile didn’t return to her face. “Sorry- must’ve gotten too happy.”

An anger flared in Prisma’s chest. This was unfair. This was a happy moment for them, Prisma was not going to let Shar let herself be involved in this moment.

She gently touched Shadowheart’s left hand, taking over on rubbing it over before moving to link their hands together. “You shouldn’t be feeling pain just because Shar wants to punish you.” Prisma says as she gently rubs her thumb across her soft skin.

“It’s okay. I told you, I can live with it.” Always trying to assure everyone she was fine. Not to fuss over her comfort.

“I know,” Prisma whispers, looking down to her hand and rubs her hand across the black spot. “But you shouldn’t have to.”

She raised their linked hands to her lips and began pressing small kisses across the top of her hand.

“What are you doing?”

“Trying to kiss it better.” Prisma stopped for a moment to speak. “I know I can’t take away the pain and you prefer we ignore it… but… please let me, I can do this rather than just stand back and watch the woman I love being in pain. No matter how short it happens.”

Shadowheart seemed to be in awe, maybe a bit surprised, but a soft expression was there as she see’s how deeply her lover wants to look out for her. She knew Prisma wanted to help anyone’s comfort, but anytime it was to herself it was still a bit of a surprise. “Well- I won’t stop you.”

Prisma’s body was sore. Fighting monks were horrendous and something she didn’t want to be at the end of if she could help it. It made her think about the mercenaries she had crossed before with her old friends before this group, the monk being the hand behind getting information from the mercenaries. Prisma made a mental note to send a letter to her old friend to check in with them, hoping she could survive long enough with this tadpole in her head and fighting a giant damn brain so she could see her old friends.

The elf had a hard time going into her trance, but even when she was up with the sun did the elf not feel any better. Her, Astarion, and Halsin were usually the ones up first before anyone else but neither said anything to each other. Astarion reading a book and Halsin going out for a walk. Prisma decided to do her usual routine to go get some herbs and see what other things she could scavenge for Gale to use in the morning.

When Prisma made her way back is when camp was beginning to wake up more. She gave Gale what she could find - accepting the warm buttered bread he gave her to hold her off until he was done - she walked through camp to see how everyone was doing.

“Hey, Soldier!” Karlach greeted Prisma, “did you see Shadowheart’s new look? She looks like gold!”

“What?” The woof-elf raised an eyebrow.

“Oh, Soldier. You should go say hi to your girlfriend then.” Karlach had on a wicked grin on the tieflings face that made Prisma’s stomach uneasy. She really didn’t want to be teased by Karlach from how Shadowheart affects her. She already heard enough from her, Lae, and Astarion.

Prisma turned from the large tiefling to make her way to Shadowheart’s tent - which wasn’t far - and quickly saw what Karlach was talking about.

Shadowheart was sitting on the ground facing a mirror, brushing through her hair to be able to put it up in a ponytail. But her hair wasn’t the usual jet black hair, it was titanium white.

Prisma stood there for a moment to watch Shadowheart place the head piece on her hair, pinning it in place, and beginning to braid it. Slowly Prisma’s legs listened to her command and made the rest of the way over. Shadowheart looked up when she heard her lover make her way over. “Oh, morning.” Shadowheart greeted as she finished the braid, tying it off at the end. “Be honest. What do you think of the new look?”

Shadowheart looked a little nervous, watching Prisma intently for any micro reactions. It was like Prisma’s mind had gone blank as she looked at the half-elf she loves so dearly, nothing but pride blooming in her chest. She was so different from the person when Prisma first met her and couldn’t help but feel so proud of her and honored to see her true self start to bloom.

“You look gorgeous! I love it!” Prisma got down to her level and cupped her cheek softly, brushing her thumb across the apple of her cheeks. “Gods- I didn’t think you could look any better.”

“Stop.” Shadowheart whined. “I’m glad someone likes it. I’m still trying to get used to it. I have a lot to get used to.”

“I get that, but know I’m proud of you.” Softly she pressed a kiss to her cheek, warming her insides as she felt Shadowheart smile at the action. “A lot has happened in the span of like… a tenday? God’s I’ve lost track of time. But nonetheless, I am still proud of you”
