Hey 'two, how about Halloween? That time of year, we dress up as other things- sometimes things that scare us, but also a lot of the time things that we just think are pretty, or look cool, or that we really like. You and Amber might get some compliment on how detailed your 'costumes' are, but it's one time of year no one is likely to think anything about seeing the two of you out and about- and! Free candy!
I do not mind Halloween, the last two have been quite enjoyable...minus Mew's infernal scare attempts she tried to pull on me, I could've done without that 😑
Finding Joy
Her safename was Joy.
That worried people, when taken with her bubbly personality- the laughter that filled the heart, the smile that lit a room, blue eyes sparkling over freckled dimples. The silly hoodie, with huge blue ears that were taller than her head- “Easier to find me in a crowd, that way,” she’d said, and well, it’s not like she was wrong. More than once, the blue ear tips weaving through a sea of shoulders was the only way to find Joy, short as she was. The iron bell around her neck only helped a little- it’s ringing often swallowed by the noise.
Joy fit her, really.
And that was why they worried.
You know, I keep ball pythons, and working on enrichment set-ups for them makes me want to design one for the Crowley's. I mean, he's got his flat and all, yeah- but has he ever had a place specifically designed for his snake form? He deserves humid hides, and climby branches, and his own waterfall and soaking pool, so he can have just as much luxury when he's wearing his scales as when he's wearing his skin!
aaw that would be so nice~ i can picture Crow wanting something like that for his and Az’s cottage. AJ doesn’t strike me as out to find creature comforts for himself, but maybe Zira helps him work into it :y he deserves nice things after they’re retired.
Not related to anything really, but you like Dishonored, so I want you to know that I'm currently writing a fanfiction scene where Emily and the Outsider are quietly competing to see who can find the most outrageous place to sit. Emily's dangling from a chandelier and the Outsider is in the chimney because he can. Corvo is Very Tired.
*snorts* amazing, thank you for letting me know. It’s been a while since anything Dishonored related has made me smile.

I've never identified with anything like I have your post about the struggles we face, being disabled. I'm "Lucky"- I keep telling myself that I'm lucky. I don't have to struggle. I don't have to work. My family is well enough off that I don't have to worry about income, about insurance, about affording my care. I'm lucky, I keep telling myself. I'm not Really struggling. I didn't really want to get married anyway, I just wanted a wedding. I'm lucky. Shouldn't it feel lucky?
*hugs*
I mean, I’m lucky too, in that I’m not in physical pain and I can get around just fine, and I don’t deal with the same challenges that someone who is often suicidal, or someone who has severe mania-type bipolar, or someone who experiences psychosis would. The anxiety was hellishly severe for a while, I mean absolutely fucking awful, panic attacks almost daily, lasting for upwards of two hours. But I have come a long way and it’s not even remotely like that anymore (I have severe discomfort sometimes! But I’m not lying in the dark screaming into a pillow! I can eat without feeling nauseated! I can leave the house and think nothing of it instead of being terrified! Anxiety is very treatable!) I DO have a home right now, and probably will for the foreseeable future, and I can pay for most of my bills on my own. My friends and family believe me when I talk about my struggles, and don’t brush it off. And I got approved for disability on my first try, which is rare enough to be almost unheard-of. So I’m lucky too, and I count myself fortunate that I have as much as I do.
But like.
There’s significant trauma involved just in watching your own community suffer.
I can only compare it to my experience of being bisexual and gender nonconforming, where I am significantly more fortunate than many, maybe even most, of my peers. I’ve never been the victim of homophobic violence, or even to my knowledge discrimination (I’m sure it has happened, but I didn’t notice it when it did). I may live in the South but this is a very friendly town and harassment is rare compared to many places. Marriage became legal nationwide just a few months after my GF and I started dating so we CAN get married if we can ever afford it. I don’t have to struggle to get respectful health care as a transitioned/ing trans person, even if the casual cissexism in most medical forms does feel gross and invalidating sometimes. My parents never threw me out and my only remaining parent LOVES my GF. The rest of my family that is left are enthusiastically accepting or are, themselves, part of the community. I have never struggled with addiction, as many of us do, or homelessness, or abuse. I am lucky. But I experience significant grief over the struggles of my LGBTQIA+ family. It hurts like hell.
So yeah, I guess it’s “lucky”. But lucky to not have suffered more of the personal and institutional violence done to your community is a thin thread of luckiness, indeed. And the knowledge that it could easily snap makes for very little comfort.
It’s the luck of the zebra that didn’t get pulled down by the lions that time, not the show horse who never has to worry about lions at all.
I'm sad. :( I bought planet zoo hoping to make, just, the most GLORIOUS snake enclosures, and it turns out there's only six snake species and you can't fully customize their enclosures or watch them slither around. Mega-fauna are not the be-all end-all of animal husbandry! Give me my little scalie babies! >:(
When @why-animals-do-the-thing was hanging out with me the night the beta dropped, I spent my evening mostly hollering at her to add more Nile monitors. I feel the pain- non-dinosaur non-avian reptiles are almost always overlooked in... well, all media. Somebody make me a Planet Lizard game!
So I've discovered that at least *one* of my snakes has a designated 'pooping rock'. When I was mid-cleaning Azreal's tank the other night, I discovered that he has apparently been consistently pooping in the jaw of his dinoskull. Which, hey- that sure made cleaning easier!
PFFFFF thats both convenient and hilarious lmao!
