Mario's Infection
I was trying to think of ways in which I could see Mario dying in the Galaxy movie, per my theory. Could this also be done in a way that implements Shadow Mario, as an infected Mario who's been poisoned by the black goop as opposed to being a form of Bowser Jr? It would give some stakes to the film as Mario is struggling to make it and save the Galaxy before he inevitably succumbs to Jr's attack.
Maybe he can even have closure by giving Peach a kiss and confessing his love before he departs the mortal world at last.
